Biography
a·phe·li·on
/əˈfēlēən/
noun ASTRONOMY
the point in the orbit of a planet, asteroid, or comet at which it is furthest from the sun.
✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦
Really followed in the Arcanist’s footsteps, didn’t you?
✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦
Atheistic and antisocial, Aphelion harbors ardent interest in all things anomalous.
When she first arrived in the Starfall Isles, she often found herself left sickly and ill by the very same magics she had come to study. Those who were born from it suffered no issues, but it was no uncommon phenomenon that outsiders struggled to thrive, especially in the most magically volatile areas. Still, she persisted in her work despite her slowly degrading body and pleas from her peers. She is the reason we understand how arcane magic shapes the psyche. She is the reason we know the tie between the arcane and reality itself. And she is a warning to all who want to know What Lies Beyond.
Aphelion spearheaded the initial exploration of the Forbidden Portal after its activation, venturing in to the unknown with only a small team of researchers. She was the only one to return. She remains the only living dragon to date who ever glimpsed what lay beyond.
Nowadays, she is never seen outside of the Core. It is said that in her dogged pursuit to understand what she saw in the Portal, she has finally and truly lost herself, both in the figurative and literal sense. Unrecognizable to those she once knew and ill-adapted to return, she spends her days reverent of the living concept of magic itself, her power autonomously shaping the land around the Core for miles. Temporal rifts, magical hotspots, shaded dead-zones, pseudo pocket-dimensions, and other environmental anomalies are commonplace here, and have slowly given rise to a rather large and thriving oddball community.
