Cersi Serrulata

Cersi began life as the younger sibling to Prince Caden, who at the time was crown prince of the Serrulata family. They enjoyed a mostly uneventful childhood, most of Their memories punctuated by exceedingly boring royal court proceedings and trying, in Their own way, to earn the favor of Their parents.

When Their father fell ill, Cersi stepped into a royal role in a much more significant way -- with the King unable to rule reliably, Prince Caden took up his work but not his title and relied in part on Cersi to assist him. After the King passed, Their mother took ill almost immediately; just three short weeks from Prince Caden's coronation, a deadly disease swept through the small forest kingdom, decimating their numbers.

There was nothing that could be done. Cersi stayed close to Caden, burying their dead and trying to quell the panic of the remains of their kingdom, until the disease sank its claws into Caden himself. Though he fought to survive, like their parents he eventually succumbed. The last surviving member of the Serrulata line, Cersi took up the crown. They were a source of comfort to Their dwindling kingdom, until the disease brought their species to extinction. Cersi was left alone, the last of Their kind, and Empress of none.

Cersi is not quite sure what exactly it was that spared Them from the disease that destroyed the Anthomera species. Try as They might - and They have - They simply cannot figure it out. Resigned to what has become of Their kingdom, Cersi now faithfully guards the grove which Their family called home, desperately trying to coax its protective central tree into blooming. Unable to do so, They fell into a deep depression.

After years of tempering herself out of fear, Cersi found the necessary strength and faith in Themself to not only bring the protective tree back into full bloom but to unlock an old magic that They'd refused since the death of their people.

With their impassible fire under their control and the grove once again an impenetrable fortress, Cersi has begun to take things slowly - one day at a time - as They learn to heal the old wounds and losses of Their people.

"I was too young to save my people."

Cersi once freely used Their fire magic, in their youth. Following the death of Their brother and then later Their people, They found they no longer could justify the use of flames that might destroy the grove if They lost control.

Mortified to lose those They care about, Cersi no longer keeps the company of others. They have devoted their time only to their Grove and their Familiar. This isolation is lonely, but ensures the safety of what remains of Their people until They at last lay to rest.
