Skell is a skilled sculptor and an expert in osteology, the study of bones. As a hatchling, he was fascinated by the markings on his otherwise innocuous scales; perfect tracings of the bones below his flesh. Unfortunately, he was born into an extremely superstitious clan that saw bones as a signifier of death. Despite his parents constantly hovering over him and keeping him away from his clanmates in case he brought them an untimely death, he still wanted to know all he could about bones. While his status as a death omen led him to be shunned by his clanmates, he was also a quiet, clumsy hatchling who rarely spoke and struggled to figure out the finer details of social interaction. Soon their fear turned to ridicule when he made mistakes and talked at length about his interests, and then animosity as other hatchlings made fun of his blunt speech and his apparently evil nature. Soon, Skell became harder than bone; as he developed a hard outer shell to keep the bullies out, his love of osteology became his refuge from what he was feeling. He eventually discovered various, detailed anatomical drawings of the anatomy of all the known dragon species on Sornieth. At that moment, a love of art blossomed in his heart. Soon he was constantly doodling femurs, ribs, and skulls in his books. As he grew into a young adult Skell received more hatred from his clanmates. He'd gone from being a weird, bone-obsessed hatchling into a fully grown artist who decorated skulls with paints and feathers and spent all his time studying decayed corpses. While Skell was simply practising his two passions, his Clan started to believe he was actively trying to bring death towards them. The Clan decided to catch him in his sleep and throw him into the wasteland, with a few scratches and bruises to make sure h wouldn't survive. Luckily, Skell awoke at the moment of attack and fled himself. Shaken, but happy to be alive and away from hose who mistreated him, Skell set out across the Scarred Wasteland to find somewhere he would be welcomed. Eventually, he found it in the form of the Mother's Cough; a group of plague-born artisans dedicated to showing Plague's culture to the rest of Sornieth. They took a liking to him, not just for his bone-themed art or knowledge, but for his survival in the wasteland and within a family that hated him. He was welcomed with open arms, and soon he became an ambassador for the guild, dedicated especially to the use of bones in the art and culture of the plague flight. |
