Biography
It is told that once there was a dragon birthed from the earth, shaped by The Icewarden and breathed into life by The Gladekeeper herself. She was to be a protector, a sentinel that watched over all of nature. From the smallest glades to the most barren tundras.
Though their creation did her best, she could not protect all of the world and her creations. As she watched, dragons took and took but rarely gave back. Being unable to fulfill her duties grated on her and drove her mad. Having been given an impossible task had broken something within her and she set upon those arrogant, selfish dragons.
If dragons would not give back what was stolen, she would take back what was taken through blood and carnage. Their bones and flesh would feed the earth and from their remains, the earth would repair the damage done. Through death, she would return life. Even her own death would feed the earth.
It is said that heroes rose up to slay the Mad Protector. That she fell upon the earth and from her corpse arose a vast and beautiful forest. Others say that one day, she felt she had performed her duties at last and has fallen into slumber until awoken once more by arrogance and greed.
This is why we plant trees within those of that fall. Why we bury the food we have eaten and scatter seeds each spring. Never grow arrogant, hatchling.
Feed the Earth as she feeds you.
