Cause of Death: Murdered by his brother

“Well, I put my life and soul into this old place, quite literally. Before my untimely death at the hands of that two-timing thief I called a business partner and a brother, this hotel was only for the living, though that notion ended up being rather false, given the amount of ghost stories that sprang up around certain rooms. Ah but you wanted to know how I died, yes? Well I will gladly tell you, and it’s a good thing I got to you before that backstabber Hatbox did, he would likely fill your head with lies to make it seem like I murdered him! I can assure you that is not the case.

He had all these crazy ideas of what the “next step” for the hotel should be, I said we didn’t need a next step! We were perfectly fine where we were. He was always rushing off on some half baked scheme to make money. I had entertained his notions when he wanted us to advertise in the local newspaper, I had stated that we were well known enough already but he was unshakeable. His schemes continued and they escalated. I held firm in my conviction that we were just where we needed to be, our father had owned this hotel and his father before that, and rest assured that as the oldest my children would someday inherit and run the hotel as well. And still he insisted that we needed to grow and expand.

At some point we got caught in an argument that got rather heated, I think we both said some things we regret, him more than me mind you. It was an argument like any other, when he pulled out a gun and shot me square in the chest! He ran out afterwards like the coward and the fool he was and left me to rot. As far as I am concerned he is my brother no more, and I am better off for it, hmm!”
