Ember

Even when she's in the deepest corners of the greenhouse, Ember can always smell the hydrangeas. They've been her favorite since before this place was her's, when she used to cling to her mother's shoulder and listen as she whispered to her the names of everything in sight. Her voice was just as warm as the beams of sunlight bringing life to the plants she tended. To her mother every plant was beautiful, and Ember thought the same of course but the hydrangeas had always been the most vibrant. As appropriate Ember had given them a place of honor near the front of the greenhouse where the growing conditions are just right and where anyone who happened to wander in would see them first.
Ember snips off a dead piece from the plant she'd been considering and smiles. There will always be something for everyone to appreciate in her greenhouse, but more importantly there was no place she'd rather be. She and her mother may have taken separate paths but that only made her love the plants more. There was nowhere better to make new memories and think of her mother, than here surrounded by the flowers, bushes and vines.
