Agaricus was a brilliant child, but coarse and blunt. Not mean, his parents were too kind to allow that, just... always ready for a fight. A bit of a rough-houser. But behind his bruises and band-aids, he really was a smart kid. He had a special interest in fungi. Mushrooms, mold, lichen, anything with spores. He loved going into the woods looking for new species. One day, he found a truly fascinating specimen. Bright blue and glowing, with an oddly fizzy scent.

Agar took it home and studied it intensively. Until he left it in his window, and the full moon's light touched it- the mushroom released its spores, filling the room with bright specks of light, nestling into his fur. Over time, he developed a strange, symbiotic relationship with the little blue caps. He learned so much from them. There are so many interesting mushrooms out there, and they told him all about them. He's just published his second book on weird and magical fungi and it's a hit.

Agar has grown more mature and reasonable, and has become a respected figure in both the mycology and magic communities. Still, every once in a while- once a month, in fact- he becomes aggressive and violent, filled with bloodlust and rage. So he runs off into the woods to hunt and howl at the moon. Y'know, let off some steam. He's not sure if it's caused by the mushrooms or just stress, and he doesn't really care. His "episodes" might be scary, but he's never hurt anyone, and man, it leaves him so relaxed afterwards.
