Everyone always mentioned how lucky he was to have hatched on such a hallowed day. Truthfully, he hated it, but he forced himself to be polite and dip his head and say, ‘you are too kind, my mother is the one you should be telling this to’.
That usually got a laugh out of them, and then he had to endure half a suncant of “Lightbringer, why didn’t you tell me how witty your son is? Oh, and so polite, too! If mine were like him maybe I’d let them off the hook for tracking half the mud in the Worldedge Wetlands into our den!”
It was annoying even the first time, and by the forty-third (he’d counted; it wasn’t like he had anything better to do) he was considering the probability of him suddenly going deaf.
Staring aimlessly at the trunk of a particularly sideways spruce tree, he was well and truly lost in thought.
It figured that then, of all the times in the world, that was when the universe decided to introduce him to the glorious being that was Takumi.
“Is something wrong?” A smooth voice asked.
“Hah????!!” He screamed, jumping a good meter in the air and whirling around.
When he landed, Orion found himself facing another Imperial his age, with dark, dark blue scales and wings.
The stranger looked deeply apologetic. “I’m sorry, I had no intention of startling you.”
“No, no, you’re fine. I was just lost in thought.”
“Ah. I’m sorry, you are…who?”
“I’m Orion. Er…sorry. I didn’t mean to deafen you there.”
Contrary to his first impression of the other, the dark-ocean colored Imperial laughed. “Nothing to worry about. My name is Takumi.”
