the long night. the long night is both a presence and a place, a choice and a simple truth; it is the essence of a seeking heart and the peace of an unreachable goal. the long night is something observable and incomprehensible, and brings a placid clarity to those who walk among it. there are only two certainties at the end of everything: the darkness and the light. this fact is the cornerstone of the philosophy challenging the demonization of darkness. the long night supposes that what is morally just is whatever best serves the protection of all things - through this supposition, the foundation of the dark is nothing more than its necessity. it is a blessing: the light of countless mornings is taken from those who reach it - the sun, paradoxically, is as frivolous as it is crucial. to see the world only by the ancient light of dead stars is to walk the long night. the ritual. the path to the long night is a ritual eponymous with the namesake of the organization, due largely in part to the number of members who willingly perform it. in sacrificing awareness of living light, those who receive it are made privy to secrets of the shadows that are often shrouded in the balance of the eternal conflict. what little light remains is woven into the cradle of night, the remnants of stars long since collapsed. there are no more days to count - there is only the long night. it is, of course, a blessing born of self-sacrifice - the light doesn't go where it cannot reach, and it cannot grow where faith in it has been extinguished. to empathize with the cold dark, all preconceptions born out of loyalty to its counterpart must be snuffed at the wick - not out of scorn, but out of necessity. ◟__________________________________________________________________◞ | _.. |
