Ilvar

Ilvar impatiently flips through the sixth book he grabs from the first shelf in this library. Somewhere within this blasted collection must be a book that answers his questions! Why is this so hard? It makes no sense! Ilvar feels frustration bubble up from deep inside of him, but takes a couple of deep breaths and manages to stay calm. He glances at the mark on his left paw. Two crescents, with a dot in between. So far he has looked at six books about all kinds of different markings, and found nothing. Absolutely nothing. He even traveled all the way to this big, expansive library hoping to find something. Anything at all.

But he found nothing.

Ilvar sighs to himself, and pulls himself back together. He came all this way, he’s not giving up now. It’s time to take this even more seriously! Systematically he goes through the aisles and aisles of books and reports and scrolls in search of that all-important answer. A book about birthmarks caused by injuries sustained as a hatchling seems interesting at first, but Ilvar quickly remembers that his time as a hatchling was rather uneventful. A report on different clan marks and carvings comes up short too. A tucked-away scroll about magical brands doesn’t even come close to what Ilvar is looking for.

Exhausted, he finally gives up. For now at least. Ilvar drags himself towards the bookcases filled with fictional works and grabs the first books that catches his eye. It’s time to relax and read. Ilvar lets the story soothe him, cozily nestling into a corner, reading the mysterious book he just grabbed. It’s actually really captivating. A wonderful story filled with love, deceit, magic… Just how Ilvar likes his stories. He finishes it in one go, without even noticing time passing by.

And then the impossible happens. There, on the last page of the book. Etched into the page by someone other than the author is exactly what Ilvar has been looking for. Or, sort of. It’s the exact mark, like the one on his paw. But that’s all there is. No info, no nothing. What could it mean? Ilvar has no clue, but he does know that he has traveled to the right library after all.
