Upelluri

Upelluri is an architect, responsible for the design of most of the houses that lace his local landscape. Having grown up on the coastline of the Earth flight, he is very familiar with the needs and challenges of designing houses to withstand the sea; if anything, the Sea of a Thousand Currents is less harsh than the ocean that envelopes the whole of Sorneith. As the highest-ranking (i.e. only) architect in the clan, Upelluri is responsible for granting permission to build within the walls of Waterborne, and in the waters surrounding its dock. When new buildings and temporary structures are not in high demand, Upelluri busies himself with any required repairs to existing ones. He occasionally takes on apprentices, most of whom go on to serve the Plaguebringer's army in various forms of military construction, hewing barracks and bases from the flesh of the landscape, or else branching out to construct heavy weapons or design toxin-laced defense systems.

Upelluri's job rarely calls for him to leave his clan's territory, and he seldom ventures beyond the dock, to watch the waves lap into the harbor. Twice a year, he will cross the Sea of a Thousand currents (a region he is more comfortable traversing than the Scarred Wasteland) to attend two recurring events. One is a trade fair and conference on modern construction on the Light/Lighting border, while the other is a more niche event in his native Dragonhome, a conference on the history of construction by the peoples of Sornieth. Beyond these two fixtures in his calendar, it takes either an emergency, or months of planning, to draw Upelluri out of the city and its environs. Upelluri has a healthy respect for both the Scarred Wasteland and the Sea, and knows that he could easily be humbled by their whims. Although he fears both, he hates neither, and has been privy to a few marvelous discovery of rare historic dwellings that escaped the relentless erosion of the waves, or else the digestion of materials by the Plage landscape.

Upelluri learned the makings of his trade in Dragonhome, but studied architecture in the Lightweaver's domain instead. He lived in various regions of the Sunbeam Ruins, working in the field for a Lanternlea-based company. It was enjoyable, but left little time for his other passion, history. Upelluri eventually grew tired of this life, and decided to move to a sleepy village adjacent to the Moonportal; home to an inn where he had often boarded when working on projects in that area. Upelluri set up his own business there- a feat more timeconsuming that the work which, for all its excitement, he had found draining -but, gradually, his one-dragon shop showed signs that it was staying afloat, and he was able to pursue his pasttime through frequent journeys to the Moonportal itself.
