The first time Gwynn met Coaxoch, she took his heart from his chest.

~~~~~~
He had heard the whispers of course. The other dragons named her witch, sorceress, betrayer, and perhaps the most dangerous dragon in Fale’s clan. No one seemed to know why she joined Fale - Fale lived and breathed moral superiority. Rumors swirl that Coaxoch practices forbidden magics. Dragons outside of the clan keep their distance and name her Witch of the Bog.
Gwynn, a newcomer to Fale's Clan, is in his prime and knows that fear and uncertainly will always distort the truth. After facing so many battles he’s familiar with the fear, jealousy and harsh judgments other dragons can make. He needs a potion made and the only one in this Lair that can help him is Coaxoch. So he brushes aside his uncertainty and doubt and enters her domain.
He sees Coaxoch in the dim light. She wears a heavily patched cloak and a tilted hat. There’s a table before her with neatly labeled boxes and scattered parts. He recognizes many of the items, he fought long nights in the upper levels of the Coliseum for them on Fale's orders. The coatl's eyes glint as she looks up sharply at him and he takes in a surprised breath at the sight of her glittering underbelly. What a rare beauty he thinks, distracted by her glittering eyes and belly. Weren’t witches old, decrepit hags? He doesn’t think she looks like a witch at all. Her pointed tone catches him off-guard.
“What do you want, Hunter?” His spine straightens at the challenge in her tone and he draws up under her gaze.
“I need potions for a grind in the Workshop. What payment do you require.” He replies.
Coaxoch sets her tools down, sits and regards the armor-clad figure before her carefully. She'd heard rumor that some reckless Imperial was the one fulfilling her "impossible" requests for the past few weeks. She'd scoffed at the idea that he was supplying her by himself. Now she's not so sure. Something dark moves behind her eyes but Gwynn barely notices. He admires the dangerous edges to her wings and faint spirals along her flanks.
“What are you willing to give me in exchange Gwynn?” Once more she catches him off guard. He senses a hunger behind her question, that he has been caught staring and dreaming. He stretches his wings and flexes them slowly, preening before this witch. He feels the same pulse of adrenaline as if he’s in the Coliseum. He never backs down from a challenge so he throws a gambit forward.
“Anything you wish to take Serpent Flower.” Now it is the Witch whom is caught off-guard. Not many dragons recognize the old language, let alone it's meanings. Triumph and delight dry her mouth.
She moves around the table and stops just in front of Gwynn, so close that he can see the full pattern on her skin and traces the line of her neck with his snout. She holds his gaze and places both front limbs on his ribs over his armor. Her face shifts, cruel and happy in the light and Gwynn’s heart fills then in an instant later all he feels is agony.
~~~~~~

There is a new addition to Coaxoch’s dwellings and shop. Now it is guarded and darkened with an aura - a great imperial, Gwynn "Lord of the Hunt" whose taste for blood scares and delights other warrior dragons. No trace of battle scars lie upon him any longer even though he fights with recklessness. A strange power floats around Gwynn now and it seems to young dragons that he can exert his will over the wind beneath his wings. His prowess and reputation continue to soar and he leads most Clan meat hunts now. Fale fights to keep him in check during Dominance fights, sometimes having to resort to violence when his bloodlust rises too far.

Florence spots a new scar on Coaxoch one day after delivering a supply of plants to Coaxoch’s shop. A jagged tear peeks under Coaxoch’s new robe. Florence is puzzled and worried because as long as she’s known Coaxoch, she has never been wounded - her magic is great enough to defeat most and the more dangerous enemies cannot break her magical shields before the other dragons and Gwynn come bearing down. So how can that exist?

Florence doesn’t care for social boundaries or niceties. If someone hurt her friend she will know. She marches forward, ignoring the warning look Coaxoch flashes to her and yanks the robe down. It tears and a splash of scars greets Florence’s gaze.

Coaxoch calmly picks up a gift from Altaira, a bone clasp and pins her robe back together before glaring up at the other coatl. “Please try to refrain from destroying Night of the Nocturne clothes, they are so hard to come by.” She chides.

Florence hesitates. She knows of the power Coaxoch holds, of the power Gwynn holds since he became her friend’s mate. A suspicion that has rested in the back of her mind for months blooms into a full flower. She nods and turns to walk out, throwing an apology over her shoulder.
