Once, she was spry and active, journeying across the realm to collect and catalogue stories. Her greatest fear was for a voice to die out when she could've prevented it. But then when a terrible accident occurred, she became severely burned and injured, but developed eidetic memory. She refuses to talk about it, and instead spends her time sipping her own tea blend and listening to bards tell their story.

It was a day in the depths of winter, the kind when the harsh chill of the wind sets right into you bones, even from the warmest depths of your clan's lair. It was a day when Karthus, usually perfectly content in any weather, was slowly wasting away in the salty basement level of Quixilveris Clan. Frightened and frantic, Uriel, all-seeing as usual, rushed to fetch the hottest dragon from the lobby of hearth and fire dragons. Quix, already caught up distributing blankets to the cold, could not come at call. Ilver and Cybernetic were busy curled up against in Ilver's wolf pelt, shivering and sparking. Currant was braving the snowstorm outside, searching for the cause of the Ice dragon that was causing it. And poor Venta was lying in a heap with her familiar Kao, slowly puffing out smoke every now and then.
It seemed the only dragon who was not freezing was Char, who was quickly summoned to the dark depths of Ember Hearth. Char wrinkled his nose a bit at the scent of salt water hanging heavily in the frosty lair, but he approached Karthus, pressed his paws on her flank and began to work his warming, fiery magic.
A bellowing 'MOOOOO' rang out from the adjacent cave, causing Char to jump in surprise. A scorching wave of flames roared out from his palms, and quickly the parchment from Karthus's studies caught fire.
Backing up in alarm, Char's eyes darted wildly as he tried to find a way to quench the flames. But whatever parchment he turned over, looking for water, the more paper burned.
The room was up in flames, and Char was at a lost for what to do. The rest of the dragons were living in the salty oceanic basement were gone, terrified by the monster consuming the lair.
Char tried to move Karthus, but it was impossible; she was far larger and heavier than him.
