Note to self: put Poison+Toxin on this poor boy or so help me Icedad I will give you a taste of my shoe Yes I KNOW he has a skin on but I can't stand my boy being this UGHLIE underneath There's a well-known legend about a mountain of pure ice that's hidden away near the very heart of the Frigid Recesses. Within it lies a frozen tomb, guarded by a monster so horrifically terrifying, you will die a cold, painful death if you even glimpse it. Every story has a grain of truth to it, and this one is no exception. There is indeed an icy mountain deep within the Frigid Recesses that holds a frozen tomb, but its guardian is no monster—he's just a Guardian. Hypothermia has dedicated his entire life to keeping silent watch over Niflheim, the living prison for a half-dead piece of the Shade. Extraordinarily good at ice magic, thanks to the Icewarden's blessing, he lets absolutely no one pose a threat to his charge. Long ago, Hypothermia left home to go on his Search. Against the advice of everyone around him, he decided to head towards the Frigid Recesses, a place that no one had any good words for. Such a place must have lots of interesting things that needed protecting, he figured. Also, he had family there anyway, and they'd help him if anything went awry. And awry things did go. Since his Search was the first time he'd been beyond the boundary of his home, it was also when he found out that his sense of direction was horrendous. He got lost almost immediately, and wandered the Cloudscrape Crags for what felt like millennia. Along the way, he picked up a couple buddies in the form of his familiars, so it wasn't all bad, but still. He wasn't exactly having a good time. Finally, Hypothermia stumbled upon a mountain that appeared to be formed out of solid ice. Intrigued, he explored it a little, and found his way into a system of frozen caves. Much to his shock, at the mountain's very core sat a dragon! Completely frozen over with a thick coat of ice, murky shadows could be seen dancing deep within the dragon's translucent body. A little scared, Hypothermia didn't know what to do until the poor Gaoler's familiars spun a sad tale of an ill-fated dragon named Niflheim who sacrificed himself to save the mountains. His emotions rubbed raw by their story, Hypothermia made a decision: he would protect Niflheim with everything he had. Since then, Hypothermia hasn't left his charge's side for more than a moment. Day by day, he's learned more about who Niflheim used to be from his loyal familiars: a strong, courageous dragon who accomplished great things with a smile on his face. And over the years, Hypothermia has grown to... well, love is a strong word to throw around, but what is love if not a deep, unconditional devotion to someone no matter what? Hypothermia remains deeply devoted to Niflheim, even if the other dragon can't do anything but exist. If he ever does manage to win his fight against the Shade inside his body, Hypothermia will be there, waiting for him. Personality Few have ever met Hypothermia, and even fewer know what he's like. He's a dragon of little words, but he is exceedingly patient and compassionate. However, he's merciless in his defense of his charge. Very few have ever tried to intrude on Hypothermia and Niflheim's quiet peace; none have left their den alive. Perhaps that's why his reputation is even worse than that of the Frigid Recesses. An excess of free time on his claws, Hypothermia whiles away his days reading books that his sister Galactica brings him, or listening to the tales his familiar, Eridan, likes to tell after he returns from his travels. He enjoys all manners of stories, barring tragedies, but he has a special place in his heart for the romance and horror genres. Isolated from most of dragonkind, Hypothermia doesn't really have any friends outside of his (and Niflheim's) familiars. He keeps in touch with his sister Evenfall via letters delivered through Galactica, whom he regularly comes into contact with due to her patrols that take her near his territory. Evenfall likes to tell him interesting tidbits from her daily life and encounters with the other residents of the Frigid Recesses, while he just responds with his thoughts. It's not much, but it's comfortable. But more than anything, he wishes to talk with Niflheim. He talks and reads out loud to him, but he wants to hear from the dragon himself. What did he like to do before he froze over? What does he think about? Can he even think? The question of his consciousness remains unknown, but Hypothermia likes to believe he's at least aware of his existence. The alternative would be unbearably sad, and Hypothermia has never enjoyed those types of stories. |
