The snap of a twig alerted his would-be victim. Calderaro let out his breath in a soft hiss and hunkered down lower into the brush. His seemed to groan in protest from the cramp position but he couldn’t move now – he had to wait until his prey returned their attention to the jumble of sticks before them. It wasn’t long until opportunity came knocking. A bright blue butterfly entered the small clearing, fluttering in a secret dance just past the tree line opposite of the hidden Veilspun.

A grin cracked his eerie visage and his wings quivered in excitement, causing a faint rustling of branches and leaves. Lucky for him, the other dragon was preoccupied with the bright butterfly. With a quick flick of his tail and flap of his wings, the Veilspun launched himself out of the bushes. It only took a moment before he was upon his victim, snarling ferociously.

”Gotcha!”, Calderaro exclaimed victoriously over his target’s squeal of surprise, quickly positioning the dragon in a headlock. His tail swished in an attempt to maintain his leverage over his opponent’s struggles. The other dragon merely grunted in response before managing to find his footing and toss the eager Veilspun over his shoulder.

More grunts filled the small woodland clearing as the two dragons tussled in the dirt. Before he could regain his advantage, Calderaro found himself pinned to the ground. He snarled in frustration as he struggled to no avail. ”Get,” Calderaro squeaked through mouthfuls of earth, “off….. ME!”
He could hear his opponent snickering before, as suddenly as he found himself pinned, the weight lifted off his back and limbs. The Veilspun clambered to his feet, panting from both exertion and excitement. He shook the dirt off as best he could before scrutinizing his adversary. A mischievous smirk crinkled the corner of his violet eyes before he pounced once more.

This time it was his rival face-down in the muck when the dust cleared. Calderaro couldn’t help but brim with excitement as he scrambled off his opponent, his muscles already beginning to stiffen from the herculean effort it took to definitively subdue the other dragon. His wings trembled in triumph.

”How about we go again?”
