Currently, nothing.
Uh-oh, looks like this deeply regretful Herdling travelled a little too far from his home lair, (Volrin, #261879) and now he's off in hot pursuit of Nezinu! If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to his home lair, to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here, or to the hub if you don't want another dragon in return. This is not necessary, but he would be very grateful!

Biography:
No, no, please no. Shank couldn't believe he had screwed things up between him and his mate so bad. It couldn't end like this! They could return to travelling together, and look for their two daughters as a team, if that was what Nezinu really wanted! He would do anything for them. He couldn't believe he had been so stupid and upset them so deeply.

They had to hear him out! Nezinu, please stop walking away! Listen to me! I can make it right! I'll do anything! Please!

Travel Log:

Volrin:
Nezinu wrote:
During Nezinu's stay, they bonded with a fellow Guardian who was also using The Purified Temple as a rest stop. His name was Shank, and Nezinu found themself quite enamored with him -- he had so many stories to tell of his travels, of his ancient ancestors who were born of Shadow and made it their goal to spread their bloodline all across the realm of Sornieth! A dozen and some generations of dragons later, here he was, looking to spread their lineage in Light.

It wasn't long before Nezinu's feelings were reciprocated by the Guardian male, and the two of them decided to settle down and nest together!

Nezinu had been so happy spending their time with Shank, but this happiness... well... unfortunately, it soon turned to resentment. Mere days after their nest had hatched, the two sisters -- Spear and Shiv -- packed up their sparse belongings and fled into the night while their parents slept. While Nezinu awoke in a right panic at the sight of their daughters' empty beds, Shank was utterly unperturbed.

"Do you remember what I told you about my lineage? How our goal is to spread our bloodline all across Sornieth?" He questioned, his tone completely unconcerned. Uninterested. "Well, when our kids are born, this is just what they do! It's a rite of passage for all children of The Herd."

Nezinu was consumed by rage. "And you just decided that it wasn't worth telling me that? So I would know what to expect from our kids?"

"Oops...?" Shank shrugged his shoulders dismissively. "Look, I'm really sorry, but I didn't think it was all that important, okay? I did the same thing to my parents when I was a hatchling, and I just kind of considered it the norm! I'm sure they'll be okay out there, I did just fine!"

Oops?! Wasn't all that important?!? Nezinu was positively disgusted at Shank's careless demeanor. They left the Temple without another word to their mate, storming out in a rash decision pushed by their fuming outrage. Just behind them, Shank followed in hot pursuit, stumbling after them desperately and blubbering numerous apologies.

The two of them traveled like this all the way out of the Sunbeam Ruins, and into their next destination!

Hyzenthlaay: ...but his mate was far too fast, and it was not long before the two had separated. A state of panic washed over Shank - he was not used to being alone on his travels, and felt exposed. Where to go from here? Part of him didn't even care to know the answer to that.

Would his travels be spent chasing after his fled mate? Or was it better to cut his losses?

He sought brief refuge in Dragonhome, and even attended a few of its famed tourist attractions - circuses and the like, sprung up after the Dustcarve Dig. But nothing filled the hole in his heart.

Volrin: The Herdling had travelled to Dragonhome in pursuit of the fresh tracks of his mate, but returned to his temporary home in the Sunbeam Ruins utterly alone and despondent. He poked around the Temple clan for some time, badgering every dragon that would give him the time of day if they had seen any signs of his mate -- and all disappointedly informed him that they had not. Not a single dragon had heard from Nezinu, not seen hide nor scale of them since the fight... Shank had never felt so empty.

Gladekeeper forgive me... how did I mess things up so badly?

The Guardian retired to his old sleeping quarters, his stare lingering long and morose on the empty bedding next to his own, and remained holed up in his room for days. What was the point of travel without his significant other? The thought of facing the world alone with his thoughts made the Herdling sick to his stomach. And yet...

If Shank just laid in bed and tuned out to the world, pined away the rest of his days like a sad old hermit, there was no way his dearest mate would ever take him back. If he truly wanted to make amends for leaving Nezinu in the dark about the truth of his lineage, and being so careless after the disappearance of their daughters, the only thing he had left to do was go back out there. Face the world.

Shank would return to his travels, alone but full of resolve. The Guardian would make his journey one of self-improvement and personal growth! He would search high and low for their missing daughters -- and he would also watch for Nezinu, yes, but he would make no effort to apologize or attempt to rekindle his relationship with them until he could be sure that he was a better dragon. Shank supposed he had a habit of tuning out to other dragons, and maybe not of lying to them per-say, but definitely omitting the full truth out of carelessness.

He would work on this the best he could. He would become a more honest man. And deities help him, he hoped desperately that Nezinu would take him back one day. Shank left the Sunbeam Ruins once again, head held high and chest full with renewed purpose.

A bit of Lore

The dragons that are part of The Herd will not harm each other, even if their home clans are at war. Gifted with unusually strong senses, these dragons can always tell when another is part of the Herd, and will greet them warmly. While these dragons tend to be friendlier than is usual for most species, if a clan acts against a dragon of the Herd, the whole Herd will shun that clan, and if the clan persists, it will find itself against the Herd. It is possible, though incredibly rare, for a dragon to be exiled from the Herd. This means that the dragon in question would have turned against their nature and attacked a fellow Herd dragon. In return, these dragons are attacked on sight by Herd dragons, no longer privy to their friendly nature.
