Arcadia stood among the youngins that she had gathered up. Beside her, Castan, her lover and fellow matriarch for the Scorpio sub-Clan, stood and held onto the younger additions. They were merely a few hours old, newly hatched.

"Attention," Arcadia rumbled. "Little ones, you will remain here until you grow old enough to choose another clan, even the Wizard Clan that we answer to. We will protect you and keep you safe until then."

Ematan, a new arrival yet already an adult, joined Arcadia and Castan. He was flashy and brightly colored, but Arcadia knew that those were the warning colors of a poisonous creature, a dragon who honed his inborn Shadow to a fine point. He had already volunteered to help protect the wyrmlings instead of moving into the Wizard Clan proper.
