Once, long ago, she fell into that place between her lungs. Her breath slowed and her heart returned to normal pace, her thoughts cleared and body slackened. It was like the flick of a switch in her mind, her past darkness until reality flooded her world.
Fear. A thousand facets for her thousand faces, her a single straw within the basket of the beast, slowly spiraling to the bottom. Long entangled within her now, any lifeline to reality severed by myriad limbs. At the end lies beginning and at the beginning there lies the end.
She is an easy roommate to keep, fed by the ice that runs through others’ veins. And, in recent times, her own. Fear is fear and that is her food, even if she must become the ouroboros. Some part of her still wishes to be in society, to have the skills Stim has, a form that has the pragmatic simplicity of physical life.
Venturing outside is a challenge, something done only on quiet nights. There is no way to fold herself within her, what she holds in simply furls back out, more majestic for the denial. And those who are attracted to her faint glow during those nights stare, mesmerized, frozen as her body slowly assembles a clicking, engulfing chain of their worst nightmares.
She eats well those nights, but starves the rest. Indulgence means her whereabouts becoming known, and she knows well how fear can incite burning violence. At times she is keenly jealous of her roommate’s ability to move in the daylight, subsist easily from her marks. The majority of her is fine to sit and wait, like a titanic deep-sea fish, for the time to feast, but a small scrap of her writhes and stews in the monotony.
Even small things, over time, come to bother her. She is not some impassive mass of manifestation. It is nice to imagine within her inner mind walking when shops are open, partaking in the foods Stim can only bring to her. She has little use for such things but they satisfy something within her.
That same part makes her think one day she can accomplish her dreams, strange as they may be.
