Yellow wanders the edge of the rotrock rim, patrolling the corroded stone before it sloughs off into the endless sands of the abiding boneyard. When he takes a step, the ground shudders beneath him. The polluted air sears his lungs and the stinking dirt tarnishes his scales.

But there is one thing left beautiful in the plague lands.

The sky.

Yellow reflects the sea of stars turning above him at night, so reminiscent of his ancestral home in the sea of a thousand currents. Stars twinkle, and the air seems clear for a shining moment. It's a pure kind of stillness, and Yellow treasures it greatly. His scales soak up the starlight, and he guards this well known secret with his life.

The stars of a thousand galaxies are his charge, and Yellow walks below them in awe.

The scars of a recent war pockmark the already pitted ground, but Yellow walks over them with a graceful step. So much time in the Scarred Wasteland has acclimated him to the searing air and poisoned water. He no longer feels his eyes itch with fever or his lungs burn.

But the stars remain the same, ever watchful, ever beautiful.

Yellow stretches out his wings in salute to them, watching them wheel silently overhead. While the clouds of dust had obscured them from view, he had waited, wings beating in vain to clear the sky above. And now that they have returned, he is at rest. The beauty and the mystery of a guardian and his charge, as cold and pure as the light of the stars themselves.
