And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things."

Hailing from the Light clan Aember, Mori and his brother, Arcanagos, were born into the Seeker order. The two were gifted to the clan as hatchlings, a sort of trade for Mirin’s young, and grew up in Cynefin’s nests. The more reserved of the two brothers, Mori has always preferred to fend for himself. Not that he doesn’t mind company - he does have close friends within the clan, but they are few and far between. More specifically, he enjoys spending time with Falak, the clan’s necromancer, Amarah, a dragon that understands death on the same level that he does, and of course, his brother Arcanagos. He is not quite the devoted Seeker that his brother is, his goings out are less often and tend to yield more resources for the clan than Shades. He prefers instead to spend his time near or within the lair, watching and learning from his clanmates. His job within the clan, on top of his other duties, is to handle the dead. Mori takes care of burial rituals and preparation in the event of a death and is one of the few dragons that have full access to Cynefin's burial chamber.

Mori’s name directly translates to “death”. While at first, this was a tribute to the skeletal pattern of his fur, it quickly became a perfect descriptor for his entire being. When he was a hatchling, a Ridgeback dragon came to the lair, fatally wounded by a hostile pack of Mirrors on his travel to Cynefin. Young Mori, unseen by his worried and frantic clanmates, watched from the shadows as healers tried in vain to end what had already begun. As onlookers were ushered out in the wake of the realization, Mori hid in a crack in the rock wall. The Ridgeback passed painfully, frantic with desperation and fear, his only companions unfamiliar dragons. Mori stayed concealed in the crevice long after the Rideback’s body had been moved and his blood cleaned from the cave floors. Eventually, he was found by Zysyss, the clan’s new but kind Archivist, who led him back to the Nest with knowing eyes and soft words. Since that day, he has become a much more somber dragon; a dutiful but reserved clan member who prefers to spend time alone, or with his familiar - a Nightmare named Cassian.
