Biography
The hatchling opened his eyes for the second time since his hatching. He wasn't in the same place, that was for sure. It didn't smell sweet and warm, for one thing. And for another, his environment was completely different. The first time he'd looked around, the first thing he had noticed was that the source of the scent was his mother - or rather, what she was doing. As she slid the tray of piping-hot fresh rolls out and put them on the counter to cool, she had turned to him and smiled - then had to shut her eyes for a moment, briefly blinded by the unexpected brightness. He had fallen asleep a few moments later again, being freshly hatched and of course not awake for very long periods at a time. The next time he woke up, he was in a completely different place. His mother was nowhere to be seen, but there was a strange hatchling watching him. Eyes the same shade as his mother's peered down at him - lots of them, in fact - they ran the length of her small body. Dark grey and green frills flicked up and down, her head tilting slightly.
"Oh, you're awake. I'm Myrtle."
She spoke in a toneless voice, though her frills constantly moved. He wondered if it meant something. It was a pleasant surprise that she seemed unaffected by the glow and spark of his eyes.
"You're probably wondering where you are - this is the Firefly Court, where all of the primal and multigaze dragons who hatch in this clan are sent. After we learn to control our heightened magical abilities, we can choose to live elsewhere in the clan, but so far we've all chosen to stay with the others. We've formed something like a family, which makes sense as we barely knew our blood relatives until we were adults."
Her gaze almost seemed to warm, despite not visibly changing.
"Since you hatched a primal, you were sent here. Your mother didn't want to leave you, but she knew it was safest if you learned to properly control your abilities from others experienced with them. She did tell us that she had a name for you - Catequil."
