The young wildclaw sat observing the chaos that had become their clan's territory. Dragons were coming and going with what supplies they could handle, some not returning at the end of the day. The yet to be named wildclaw wasn't worried, however, as the older dragons in the clan had told him stories of what happened when the clan moved to a new territory after outgrowing the one they had occupied. He simply figured those who hadn't returned were settling in at this mysterious new territory.
Oh, but how wrong the little wildclaw had been.
A few weeks into the chaos of the supposed move a spiral who had been with the clan far longer than the wildclaw asked the younger dragon to come with him. Seeing that the spiral had a bag with some unknown items in it and a pair of familiars behind him the wildclaw assumed it was his turn to start the trek to their new territory. So, he agreed and, familiars in tow, they began their trek through the forests.
After wandering the forest for a long while the wildclaw recognized a change in the landscape, he noticed they had left the Starfall Isles and were entering deeper into the Viridian Labyrinth. Getting nervous, the wildclaw tried to make sense of why the spiral had led him this way. Maybe the clan had switched flights?He's heard of that happening before… yeah that's gotta be it, they're just moving to a territory in a new flight. ...Right?
Not much longer and the travelling duo wandered into the territory established by a rather odd-looking pair of dragons. The spiral greeted the timid founder and her giant of a companion, starting up some small-talk while the wildclaw kept his distance. While lost in his own thoughts the young dragon only half paid attention to the conversation occurring...
""Well, this looks like a good place to drop you off""
Wait, what?
He doesn't even realize he exclaimed it out loud until the spiral's expression shifts from its typical smile to something more nervous, ""Oh, did I forget to mention? The clan is disbanding, and we are finding homes for everyone.""
Disbanding? What? Was that why the clan hadn't given him a name yet, they didn't think it was worth it if they were just dumping him on someone else?
""Yeah,"" the spiral continued, ""this is your new home. I'm sure they are nice…"" The wildclaw wasn't listening anymore, just letting the knowledge he was being abandoned sink in.
In a daze he watched the spiral, the liar, wrap up his conversation with the fae and guardian, hand them the bag, and skitter off as rapidly as he could muster, leaving the two familiars and the stunned wildclaw behind.
Photios.
That was his name now, Photios, that's the name the timid founder had gifted him. The fae, no, her name was Florrie, you know that now, had said something about it's meaning having to do with light, ""because he was so very lovely and bright""
He didn't feel very lovely or bright right now.
The elder pearcatcher told him that it was fine to feel upset, to feel like he's unwanted, or any of the myriad of negative things that his idle mind has managed to come up with since his abandonment. ""But,"" the pearcatcher said, ""don't make your home in your despair. There's much more to life, more to experience, more folks to meet, more memories to make, and more feelings to feel. Acknowledge your pain and move on from there, even the smallest step is worth something.""
Now where am I supposed to go from here?
