Biography
I was home again, I think. Darkness shrouded the town, even though with the new changes in management, the streets were usually lit. Even in the deadest hours of the night when no one should be awake.
The streets were familiar, that was for sure.
I never knew, dreams always distorted the actual places.
I always knew, it was unmistakable.
Cold air filled my lungs as I took a breath I’d forgotten to take, heavy as water. This was going to be a bad one.
A shiver ran down my spine, fur raising in a wave following the sensation. I had not noticed the brightly lit plain that had used to be a simple crossroads. Like the posts of a fence, lamps surrounded the place, all directed to a lanky figure.
Standing still, swaying gently upon all four of their spindly limbs...were they sunken deep in thought or just delirious?
Common sense would tell me to run, but I had abandoned all sense by now. Nothing in dreams will ever hurt you.
I stuck to the shadows, hoping to stay unseen by the other. Each step I took, I could feel the cold, smooth stone pavement beneath my claws.
There was no wind, no noise to be heard except for the barely audible scrape of my own claws upon the path.
As I approached, the silence gave way to the quiet, ragged breathing of the other dragon. Close enough to see more than their outline, it dawned upon me that they were a Tundra, just like me.
A thought was nagging at the back of my mind. They look familiar. I have never seen this dragon before.
The dragon’s fur was messy, clumped together and patchy, the bold blue and raspberry stripes barely discernible below the remnants of magical energy that rested upon them.
Slowly, unsteadily, they turned their head towards me, and only as their foggy eyes locked with mine I realised that the last action had been deliberate. I froze. My limbs tensed up, ready to pounce, to flee, to whatever.
Their expression stayed blank, even though they bared their fangs in a jagged smile.
The nagging thought was back again, as I stared back at them. The eyes. The same fractal eyes I saw every day. Those were my eyes.
I was the creature standing in front of myself.
