What do you mean this isn’t a fancy google doc that holds my writing examples? This totally isn’t in a dragon’s bio.

———
"If you say so." Apollo said, laughing slightly. He noticed that Cheryl suddenly stopped and looked towards the sled, or the not sled? The 'sled' was a group of figures, four of them if he was counting right. The coats that they were wearing... Apollo looked down at his own cloak, they looked almost identical. The white coats, the gloves and the boots, he knew exactly who that was.

"You've got to be kidding me." He mumbled as the group of people walked towards them. He turned around to face Cheryl who was nervously clinging to his arm. "Don't freak out, I'm pretty sure these are my relatives. The ones that I told you about before, they live in a cabin." He glanced behind him, keeping his voice low so there wasn't a chance that they could hear him. "Listen, you're going to have to pretend to be an enchanted, alright? Just, oh no here they come." Apollo turned around with a nervous smile on his face, turning to face the approaching group.

The group was obviously enchanted, underneath the white cloaks poked out horns, only one had a horn like Apollo, the rest had two or three; one even had what looked like a gem embedded into their forehead. They all wore white coats with a furred hood, Apollo's grey coat stood out among them. "W-What are you doing out here?" Apollo asked, his voice dropping significantly in volume from when he was speaking to Cheryl. "D-Did you think I didn't stop or something? I a-always stop by the cabin on my way back..." He trailed off as the girl with a unicorn horn grabbed his shoulder, he winced from how hard she was grabbing him.

"We didn't come out here for you. " The girl sounded rather aggressive as she spoke. "We came out here chasing a car that almost found our cabin. We couldn't catch up with it, obviously, but we saw your sled just lying on the side of the road and thought the human got to you." She frowned at Apollo before hugging him. "I'm glad you're ok." Apollo let the hug last for a second before pulling away, turning to Cheryl. He fidgeted awkwardly, trying to figure out how to explain the situation. "Um, everyone this is Cheryl. Uh, Cheryl this is my sister and some, uh, family friends." The group seemed wary of Cheryl, eyeing her with suspicion.

———

As the group walked more in more in silence Apollo felt a glimmer of happiness as he saw the sled approaching. While he didn't like talking the unnatural silence in the air made him more nervous and on edge than he normally was.

He hated it.

The occasional giggle from Cheryl made the silence more bearable and gave him the ease of knowing that Cheryl had somewhat calmed down. He took a deep breath in when they finally approached the sled which Finn had dragged onto the road from behind a large snow bank.

Finn was a more scrawny looking character having two horns that lined the sides of his face, spikey hair and eyes like the sea during a storm. He was much shorter than Cole and Apollo but was still tall compared to Cheryl and Hazel. His coat seemed too big for him and his gloves too small, he looked like the youngest of the group and watched everyone with observant but calm eyes.

The group boarded the sled, Cole smushed into the back with Hazel and Finn sat on either side on him. The front seat held Apollo and Cheryl while Alina was in the middle of these two parties. "Now that we have a sled full of enchanted." Alina said, examining her gloved hand. "We should be able to get to the cabin in no time. You guys can spend the night before returning to the village." She tilted her head at Cole who had taken off his gloves and had stretched them out at the back of the sled. "Hit it."

The sudden whoosh of fire crackled into existence and the sled shot off at an extremely fast speed. Cole's firepower launched them at the speed of a car, causing Apollo to yelp as he willed light orbs into existence. Not much was being said as both Apollo and Alina summoned light orbs to boost the sled even more, launching them at speeds that Apollo only dreamed of.

———

Apollo smiled when Cheryl took his hands, he felt something in him flutter. He felt warm, although he wasn’t sure if that was from Cheryl’s fire magic or not. As the stream of people came out of the building, Apollo smoothly led Cheryl into the crowd as they walked towards the center. The lanterns that had been hung up were now lit, staining everything with their colorful lights. It was like a festive fire, but one that wasn’t harmful.

He listened as everyone’s feet crunched in the snow, it was almost rhythmic in a way. However, the crowd soon thinned out and spread to fill the town square. The square, which had been empty before, now had long tables with picnic bench seats on the sides. Sat on the table were lantern frames of all sizes, the wire frames lined the tables down the middle. Each one had a sort of crystal in the center, which was perfectly clear apart from a small dusting of snow on it.

Apollo watched as enchanted moved to sit at the tables, groups of friends laughing and chatting while grabbing a lantern frame. Apollo himself sat down at one of the tables and motioned for Cheryl to sit next to him. In front of them, apart from lantern frames, was an assortment of colored paper and what looked to be fancy pens. It looked somewhat similar to those craft stations that you’d have in elementary school.

“T-This here is the main part of the festival.” He felt his voice quiver as strangers began to sit around him and Cheryl. “Since this is you’re first festival, I’ll explain what’s going on. Oh! But uh, pick a lantern frame first. Whichever one you’d like.” He smiled and took a small round frame. It was no bigger than a dodgeball. He placed the frame on front of him and waited for Cheryl to make her choice.
