Pleiades's first sight upon assuming dragon form was the glittering blue eyes of the creature that would later become xyr life companion. Xe awoke in a cove above the Fishspine Reef, proceeding to form a close kinship with the area. Pleiades became greatly skilled in the healing arts, taking after the Starflyers that came before xem. Xe takes great joy in caring for the hatchlings that come to the Menagerie, and bases xyr purpose in raising the younglings.

Pleiades often accompanies Astra on trips to and from the Oculus of the Eleven, where they speak with scholars from all over Sornieth about their kind and the Menagerie's efforts in caring for the endangered, injured and vulnerable. Lacking xyr partner's natural suspicion of beastclan folk, xe picked up several different beastclan languages at an alarming pace, and splits xyr time between taking care of beastclan folk and dragons alike.

Trivia

• Pleiades took an unusually long time to learn dragonspeak. Till this day, xe prefers to speak beastclan languages, or converse with xyr partner in their own language.

• The cove where xe was born remains cool and calm all year round, and xe often takes Astra there with xem to escape the hustle and bustle of the Menagerie.

At the end of the third age, the Tidelord swam for days, looking for a place to call home. As he swam, prophecies of unwanted futures and consequences echoed in his head. One night, he could take it no longer, and raised his head above the water to gaze upon the night sky. At this moment, a star fell from the sky and shattered, landing in the water around him. A single fragment landed on the Tidelord’s head. Almost immediately, the voices in his head quietened.

The Tidelord blinked. He tipped his head, allowing the fragment to fall gently into his claws. The rock — no, the starfire — glowed slightly with a silver hue, but didn’t seem to hold any magic. Unimpressed, the Tidelord swept up the fragments of starfire in the water and huffed a stream of water magic over them, disintegrating them into tiny pieces. In his haste to leave, he failed to notice that the fragments had begun to glow blue.

Over time, the starfire fragments infused with water magic morphed to take the form of small energy sprites. As the dragon clans grew and multiplied, the sprites decided to take the form of dragon breeds. Slowly, they began to act and live more and more like dragons, with some even gaining elemental magic from other flights. And thus, the Starflyers were born.

Starflyers are a subspecies of dragons who were born from Tidelord-blessed starfire that fell from the sky. They have the unique ability to negate harmful effects of dragon magic, earning many of them healer titles in dragon clans. Regardless of inborn flight, Starflyers are able to summon wisps of starfire. Powerful or elderly Starflyers often have permanent starfire embers following them around. Small sprites and insects, attracted to the otherworldly magic of the Starflyers, become these dragons' lifelong companions. While shy of other dragons, Starflyers will often seek companionship with familiars or other non-beastclan creatures. They feel the strongest on nights with shooting stars, and will emerge from their lairs to float on the water’s surface, perfectly camouflaged with the reflection of the night sky.

As the Starflyers popularity grew among the dragon clans, Beastclans began to take notice. They discovered that any part of a Starflyer could negate dragon magic, regardless of whether the dragon was alive. The Beastclans began hunting the Starflyers in large numbers, slaughtering them for their scales and horns. It became a necessity in Beastclan abodes to have parts of a Starflyer in their homes, protecting it from the destruction of the dragon clans. As naturally peaceful creatures, the Starflyers never stood a chance.

The last known Starflyers disappeared after a skirmish with Maren above the Leviathan Trench. A clanless mated pair and their three hatchlings. The pair had stayed above to hold back the advancing Maren, leaving the two older hatchlings to hide their youngest sibling, barely a moon old. Xe barely managed to hide xem before the deepsea Marens ripped xry hearts from xyr chests and harvested the scales from xyr skin. The youngest Starflyer is said to have been found and perished soon after, but grieving clanmates of other starflyers hold on to the hope that xe is still safe.
