Sentinel is positioned at the entrance of the Temple of Gods, an open-air shrine where dragons may visit to send prayers and gifts to the gods watching over them, coiled around a pillar. He makes sure that those who enter aren't there for bad reasons, and will mercilessly slaughter those who chose to disobey his threats. Despite his serious nature, when not on duty he likes to chat and make lighthearted comments to those passing by. He's a fairly gleeful person when not angered, and he usually never has to be mad unless push comes to shove. Because of an incident involving an Earth mage, Sentinel's scales are practically made of stone. A side effect of this transformation was that his hunger was greatly reduced, almost to the point of not needing food to live. This lets him serve his job as a guard much more efficiently. He owns a pet gecko who he cares deeply about, and he will take breaks to give it food and water and attention. |

Sentinel- then named Alyx- actually used to be a cheeky Shadow spirit, who liked to play pranks and make fun regardless of the consequences. He had a fluid body and a lack of concern for his safety. His flaws quickly turned on him as one day he messed with a powerful Earth mage who caught him in the act. They decided to punish him by hardening his scales into stone, and his wings into glass, so he could not fly. This dampened his mood, but not enough to truly stop him from messing with others. The one problem was that now, because of his rocky scales, he could not be sneaky, for they would grate against each other and create such a ruckus that he would attract attention unintentionally. Dismayed after a final, failed prank, he wondered what his purpose was now that he could no longer enjoy himself. He was visited by Primacy, who told him of a place where he could give himself a new purpose- Indifference, a newly developing town buried deep in the Starwood Strand. Sentinel, becoming slightly desperate at that point, accepted the offer and was welcomed into the town by the founder herself, Maelstrom, the multi-armed demigoddess. She thought that perhaps, with how he looked a bit like a statue, he could pretend to be a carving of a Spiral coiled on a pillar while actually protecting the Temple that was being built on the edge of the town. He found this to be a kind of fun idea, for he could still play fun with dragons by pretending to be a statue. Of course, things happen, and at one point he was faced with a tough decision. A dragon claiming to be there to pray attempted to swipe some food left for the gods. He attempted to merely subdue them, but they didn't want to give it up, trying to fight him. After a skirmish, he found himself tightly coiled around the offender, with a choice of either letting him (and the food) go, or by continuing to suffocate them and stopping their crime. In the end, he uncoiled his body- dropping a corpse on the marble floors. Sentinel didn't enjoy it at all, but sometimes some things had to be done. |
