Topaz heard rumors about Polareis' glory days when he was a hatchling, his parents having encountered the noble clan in their leisure trips around the globe. Enchanted by the idyllic picture his parents painted of the clan, he set out to find it as soon as he could make long trips on his own.

Unfortunately for him, Polareis has long since left its days as a paradise behind when he arrives. Confused and dismayed by the serious and warlike clan before him, he considers leaving without speaking to anyone. That is, until he sees Calandria. In her shining golden armor, she appears as a goddess to the young Topaz, and he immediately decides to devote himself to her.

As he gets to know the wildclaw better, he realizes that while she is every bit the embodiment of valor and purpose that he had at first expected, her eyes will only ever see him as a pale imitation of her father. But it's too late now to back out. And so Topaz carries on, growing nervous and secretly resentful as time goes on.
