Named after a great mythical creature of life, the Phoenix her parents believed she would become one of the strongest, fastest, and most beautiful dragons of the clan and bring them light and joy. And this she became. A fast learner and dedicated to the greater good, many dragons looked up to her strength and beauty. She grew arrogant and spiteful with power, until a great tragedy occurred. The beastclans had prepared a raid on Phoenix's clan, and the clan knew ahead of time. The clan leader was growing very old, and tasked Phoenix with the defense of the clan's borders. "A test," he said. "Prove your worthiness here and you may take over the clan after me." Phoenix had no doubt she could do this, and she led the clan well during the battle. However, when a battalion was cornered by the beastclans, Phoenix refused to retreat and had them keep fighting. Phoenix and her battalion were able to fend off the beastclans, but she suffered a mortal wound from this pride. Her mother, the clan shaman, gave up her life to the Lightweaver as a trade in order to save her daughter.

Phoenix and the clan were saved, but Phoenix was distraught. Her father, stricken with grief, fled to the south and abandoned the clan. As he was leading, he shouted back "Death! You were named after the creature of death, not life!" and cursed her. A single tear rolled down Phoenix's cheek, and it burned with fire. The pain of losing her family, through love and loss, felt like ice and burning at the same time for her. She fled to a cave and lived by herself for weeks, with only her childhood friend for company, who would check up on her.

Phoenix discovered great calm in the forest. The only thing that was able to ease her pain was quiet meditation by a pond, where she could have full control of her own thoughts. When she was in this calm state, small animals such as birds and deer were not afraid and would approach her. She began to create. Slowly at first, and then as her heart and hands healed, she created more. Delicate designs burned into leaves, mandalas in the sand, songs that she hums quietly. At last, she was able to return to her clan, but she found things in disarray, with no food gathering organization or healers for the sick. The clan leader had become very ill and was not able to help his subjects. He offered the role of Matriarch to Phoenix, but the clan was in chaos and she was in no state to lead others. She graciously refused as she was still in great distress with the loss of her family and her role, realizing she still had a lot more to learn about the world. However, her childhood friend offered to lead the clan with her.

Together, they rebuilt the clan and formed a strong foundation that led to the creation of many other clans across the land. Phoenix and her friend formed an unbreakable bond and decided to travel to the new clans they had cultivated and enjoy the beauty of nature along the way.

As they continued to travel they moved closer to the sea. When they finally stepped out of the forest onto the beach, they were moved by the beauty of the ocean. Phoenix felt especially inspired upon looking at the beauty of the shore. They were approached by a large green and gold imperial. "It's beautiful, isn't it? You don't seem to be from around here at all. What's your name?" Phoenix and her friend introduced themselves and spoke of their travels. The green imperial extended an invitation for them to stay with the Hibiscus clan and rest. "I am afraid we cannot stay long. I am a cursed creature and I do not wish tragedy upon any clan," Phoenix had explained. Her friend looked thoughtfully at her, for now he understood why she wanted to travel so much.

The green imperial looked at them thoughtfully. "I believe the Hibiscus clan is the perfect place for you. You see...I am learned in mythology. The Phoenix was not the creature of death, but of life. Here at the Hibiscus clan, we are a clan of creation. We create herbal tea blends to soothe the minds of dragons and medicinal salves to heal their hurts. We create beautiful art and songs to teach our hatchlings compassion." Looking out to the sea, Phoenix had finally felt at home. "We will stay.....if only you will be willing to teach me." The green imperial nodded, and took her in that very day as an apprentice tea brewer. Her friend was well learned in defense strategies and helped to fortify the clan against beastclans. They had many beautiful hatchlings together, raised along the seashore in kindness and happiness.
