____The revelation came to him heralded by the Rider of the White Horse. It shouldn’t have been as shocking as it was, truly it should’ve been obvious. He would’ve protested the unfairness of it all if he wasn’t too busy gasping down air into burning lungs. He would’ve screamed if his words weren’t silenced with burning bile. So he howled his silent howls into his heart, and in his mind, he cursed and screamed until the sounds echoed forevermore. Oh how shocked the gods must have been when that porcelain boy didn’t die; how delighted they must have been in their new pet monster. How could they not be? After all, it is the gods who love the monsters most. For without their little monsters, who would need heroes?

They watch him closely. They help him, waiting for the prayers to come before they strike him down. They watch until it’s now him dressed in brilliant white, smiling kindly as he plays god. They watch as he hides his fangs behind beautiful masks, and laugh when no one sees those serpentine scales of his. All they need now is a hero to come along. All they need now is a little time.

____It feels like there are to many pieces of glass in my chest, and they just don't fit anymore. They're too broken. Sometimes if I move just right I can drown out the pain and smile, until I trip and fall. I can feel the glass pierce my chest, where's the blood I can feel running down my side? Where's that shard of glass that I can feel sticking out of my stomach? But all there is the sinking realization of, Oh! What have I done?
