once two separate, warring kingdoms, the miasmic-bludval alliance represents a new era of peace under the joint rule of king marmor of the miasmic kingdom and king vyel of the bludval kingdom. the kings, both only sixteen years of age, represent a break in the generations of fighting.
the miasmic kingdom is an ancient one, founded on the ashes of an even older predecessor. it's most well known kings were xaphan, who became cursed to lurk the halls he once ruled in a state of miasmic afterlife for which the kingdom was renamed; yamanu, the king who transformed himself into a mindless beast with blood magic to save his kingdom; and baptisia, yamanu's younger brother and most trusted friend who's memories fragmented alongside his precious pearl after a vicious attack on the royal court. marmor has very large shoes to fill, but a tight-knit royal court to back him.
the bludval kingdom was only three generations young when vyel took the throne. his mother, a vicious vampire who wouldn't take no for an answer, had slaughtered her own father for the throne and incurred her sanguine curse. ghanymura ruled with an iron fist and terrorized the miasmic kingdom, enslaved her own people, and swiftly crushed rebellions at every turn. her reign of terror came to an abrupt halt when the primordial goddess of the void -- ginnungagap -- sent her shade-born forces to wipe out both kingdoms at once. ghanymura disappeared amidst the chaos, and has been presumed dead. vyel has taken the throne in her stead, as is his birthright.
now, the two kingdoms exist in a state of fragile harmony following ginnungagap's fall. as dragons from both sides pick up the pieces and carve out a new life for one another, the alliance draws closer; it has, slowly, become less like two sides each struggling to stand with the other and more akin to a community.

an old kingdom, built on the ashes of an even older civilization, the miasmic kingdom wasn't always known by such a familiar name. the kingdom and its mighty throne hall were the seat of emperor xaphan, where he ruled firmly and fairly as the ruler of the nethermist empire. but, as the empire's power began to dwindle, so too did emperor xaphan's fairness run out.
it began with two brothers, adopted sons of xaphan hatched from stolen eggs. the eldest, yamanu, was hardly fledged when his younger brother was placed in his care. that hatchling - baptisia, as he was named - admired his brother with everything he had. xaphan delighted in his sons, and for some time it seemed that his agitation had halted. though the empire was hardly what it once was, xaphan was happy with his boys and so the empire's capital city thrived.
