Kudzu is the closest to a communal Grandma that The Keep will possibly ever get. Oddly enough, she wasn’t hatched in songbird Keep, coming instead to reside as a clanmate after her retirement. She worked for most of her adult life as a Beasthunter, traveling from clan to clan and removing local monsters posing a threat to the nearest lair. it was a lonely path- fulfilling, certainly, and largely devoid of regret- but her interactions with others usually proved superficial and passing. Weary of a life on the road and between various dens, Kudzu heard rumors of a quiet and homely little clan at the meadowy edges of the shattered plain. while not especially inclined to the arts herself, Songbird Keep and its’ musical eccentricity appealed to her, and she found the clan was happy to welcome Kudzu into their ranks as a much wizened elder. Kudzu is perhaps the most prickly of any other clanmate. A relative term, of course; it’s difficult to be a truly standoffish dragon in the midst of place so vibrant with sunny personalities, warm camaraderie, and endless song. Still, she gives the “disgruntled elder” stereotype her very best effort. Overall, Kudzu retains a snappy reputation well- if not for her documented soft spot for hatchlings. As a mother to many offspring of her own (primarily in her adult youth, given to others to raise; a traveling life isn’t exactly conducive to child rearing), Kudzu has maternal instincts ingrained within her just as strongly as those that lend to her monster battling past. It’s mere coincidence that so often leads her to spend a day entertaining the imaginative play of The Keep’s brood. Nothing more than that. And if she tears up a bit when one calls her “Auntie,” then that’s all hearsay, and clearly someone will be getting a thorn in their bedding tonight (not that she’ll dirty her talons with that sort of trickery, of course. Possum is always more than glad to pester anyone in her stead). |
