The Returned
Hierophant
Mate of Amanita

"That thing crawled out of the
Wyrmwound, and it went to
war. Make no mistake, it might
look like a dragon, but it is
not. Also, do not mistake it for
a servant of the Plaguebringer,
for it is only an Agent of
Chaos, and it belongs to Her
alone."

- Arenna the Gale

Bruce, Lover of the Sea
He was previously "Bruce" and honored mate of Aria, who had been among the firstborn of her parents, Carver and Griffa. She was a princess of the sea, and she and all but one of their children were taken by the light, after which he did not see them again. All except for his son, Silvan.

All the while he had spent his life as "Bruce" a father and faithful lover, he had possessed no knowledge of his true origins. So much had been lost to the memories of life. He was born of the sea itself, from the depthless oceans beyond the Tidelord's landlocked domain. From the infinite dark, by chance, and by some unfathomable will was he spun up from this darkness and cast upon the land or Sorneith. An egg ancient and unhatched until it found the Tidelord's elemental waters, where it again sank into the deepest dark at the bottom of the Leviathan Trench, completing some unknown pact and trade.

But his only memory had been being dredged up in the net of a beastclan fishing vessel, untold eons later. But now his true vision has been restored...

The Conscript
An intense battle was sparked along the Scarred Wasteland's western border, wild magic combined with rapid mutation became a breeding ground for terrible and unnamable horrors as the Arcane Exalted fought to push back against the influence of the Plaguebringer's Wandering Contagion which threatened to devour more and more of the Starwood Strand, spreading inch by inch year by year through the wild and brilliant forest. Tensions rose until skirmishes along the border became an outright conflict of near legendary scale, both sides vying for dominance in a show of elemental power.

Sahko's arcane knowledge and affinity proved invaluable to the Clan of Singing Blood during this time. He had come to the clan during another such battle, as the forces of Light and Plague clashed across Sorneith and channeled their elemental energies into the world though wild worship and riotous ritual in a raw and terrific show of draconic might. This had solidified Sahko's loyalty to the plaguebringer, and he threw himself into her service against the crystal spires where he had been born.

This was when Sahko found Bruce, an old weary wanderer, looking for his son, and for shelter from the storm of magic which had taken the region. Sahko quickly and eagerly offered Bruce everything he sought. The Mad Elementalist had seen with a glance from his multitude of eyes that this dragon contained great magical potential. He promised Bruce protection, a way to see his son, and even to find his lost mate. It was no more than a trick... Sahko had been lying, but Bruce was delivered all three...
Exaltation
Sahko pledged him to the Plaguebringer, trained him and shaped him with powerful arcane magics, all the while Amanita watched and whispered. Sahko had intended Bruce to be no more than a powerful Exalted Weapon, for while he had seen much, he had not seen everything.

The final step in Bruce's Exaltation was a baptism in the Wyrmwound. This was not a common practice, for such an adventure was sure death - as honorable a death as one could achieve within plague's creeds, but death just the same. Sahko prepared a vessel to collect the elemental essence released by the ritual, a vessel which could be utilized as a weapon in the hands of an Exalted Warrior, or even a whole company of them if his calculations were correct.

Bruce did not expire within the pool of virulent corruption; Sahko's vessel was not filled. Instead, the ritual pool boiled and churned. Several of the priests helping Sahko with his work were splattered and suffered rapid death. Unspeakable writhing limbs twisted up and thrashed out of the pool, which had very quickly gone from the color of pus and bile to black... to clear almost all the way to the bottom, where it was murky still from accumulated biological sediment. The thing in the pool had unceremoniously tossed Bruce out, and the fae landed with a wet splat at the foot of the bone altar there. It was too late, however, as whatever ancient mutated servant of the plaguebringer had made a home of that particular pool rapidly died in the now purified water.

When the priests approached to collect the Fae, however, they found he had gone, melted into a faintly luminescent puddle and drained away.

Three Promises
The fae had been bound to service to the Plaguebringer by his exaltation, even if it had appeared to have been a failure to Sahko and the Priests, and he did serve her, and among the exalted at her side in strange unreachable planes where few dragons may reside all at once with their god and in the world he found Silvan.

In service to the Plaguebringer he warred at the western border against wild horrors and the powerful Arcane Exalted, but he was Awoken now, and knew his true nature, and his ancient water magic protected him from harm. No claw, nor tooth, nor other mundane weapon could inflict lasting harm upon him, for he was as an elemental of the sea, a dragon of living and animated water. He was water that flowed and ground out other elemental magic, purifying them. So he was protected.

While he was sworn to the Plaguebringer's service, he was not loyal to that god, and so when the conflict ended in plague's victory he was released and thrown back, in the same way that the creature in the pool had thrown him back, and he landed again upon the earth of Sorneith with the same wet splat. Though from his perspective untold eons seemed to have passed, and in rejoining dragonkind on earth in sky and sea, he was stripped of some of his greatest powers, but not the memory of them, and not the memory of the Plaguebringer and her wild monsters, and not the memory of the Arcanist and his maddening view of the stars, and not the memory of the Tidelord and his secret, overheard prophecies, and not the memory of the darkest depths of the sea, where even stranger things lie in wait.

He was taken for a time by madness, until he was soothed by song and approached by an unknown haunt. He was summoned by the dragon responsible for his awakening, and this haunt was his guide. He followed it and found himself in a familiar place, the Bloodsinger's Inner Keep, where Amanita was sealed away in Sahko's lab. He was to be her mate, and she his. He was to be her agent, and she was the agent of the things which had long ago made some unknown pact which had spawned him. He had found his mate.

The Echoing Brood
Currents of air and water swirled and pushed through Sorneith, pressing against the shore and sweeping across the land. In the darkness of the Scarwind Keep, the Grey Fae was taken by a dream of song and ecstasy. Deep shuddering echoes from Below, muted as if by an endless sea. Faintly reverberating alien songs from the cold darkness around him. Amanita gifted to him three very special eggs, which he kept hidden in his secret roost. This was his time to prove to her his strength and loyalty, and these three eggs would not be found by the dragon who supposed she was his captive.

The sea swelled and was tossed by the wind. Distant shorelines flooded. News was brought to the keep of pending disaster. It was time. Grey called upon a loyal ally to take the first egg to the sea, where it would hatch into a small, but strong plague fae who would dive to the bottom and find the Tidelord's divine prophecies in the deep, even if no one else could. They would then weave these prophecies into Visions for their brother.

The wind howled and the land trembled below it. It carried a storm from the sea. Driving rain and endless gales. So Grey called upon another loyal ally to take the second egg to the Windsinger's high cliffs and cloud cities where it would hatch into a small, but strong plague fae who would catch the wind with its wings and carry messages and news from all over the world for their brother.

The final egg did not hatch for a very long time, but when it did the Grey fae taught his son how to listen to the strange echoes of his distant siblings, and how to gain knowledge and power from them. Then, the final brother was sent into the world to see to his own fate.

The Dead Brood
In the dark of a silent, moonless night, Grey lowered three eggs into his secret nest, another gift from his mate. Before long they hatched, and two sisters came to the world, each with their bellies filled with a strange, shimmering fluid, displayed to the world as openly as a young lover's heart. The final egg, however, did not hatch; it turned hard and foul and began to rot. Grey could not bring himself to discard it, still reverent of the gifts which Amanita had given him, so it stayed alone in the nest and putrefied while its sisters lived and grew and learned.

A sense of evil grew among the fae of the Scarwind Keep. A drawing dark which thickened with each passing night until the two sisters discovered the old egg in the lonely nest. The two sisters, who had been taught of their strange heritage picked up the dead thing and held it between them. Then together they exhaled a mix of their vital fluids over it, they poured upon it their combined will, and Wished their unborn sibling would join them.

The egg twitched and stirred with life, a new growing press from within the old withered membrane of the shell. Its surface, long ago turned black from rot, bulged, then ruptured, spilling forth a tarry ooze and a swarm of furious flies, given life by the sister's efforts. The sisters did not cease their efforts even as the thickening swarm threatened to choke away their life-bringing breath and the buzzing grew to a maddening pitch and volume. They did not stop until they saw her - the tiny fae at the heart of the swarm. Acherontia lifted her head and the swarm of flies stilled and silenced. Vigor and Vitality had brought their sister into the world of the living.

The trio departing together that evening, to disperse themselves across Sorneith to frightful and unknowable ends.
