"You are mine as much as I am yours."

I stare at the thing, unblinking. It is my mirror, all grimy feathers and clusters of eyes- torn wings too small to fly hang limp at its sides, and it moves like a bird. Sharp movements, a little twitchy. Feathers ruffle- mine, maybe. We are twins. We are mirrors, but I am shattered.

I blink. It does not. Silence pools between us, and I struggle for words. It is mine... my mirror. My power. Influence. It is what drives me to consume... those things. I wonder, for a moment, if I have passed some hellish craving onto it.

I nod. "We are the same, no?"

I'm wrong- of course I am. This beast is not me, yet I am it. We are not the same- not both ways. The mirror seems to only go one way, then. It has changed me, irreversibly, yet I have left no impact on it. Of course.

I laugh. Of course! What can a mortal impress upon a god- fragmented and broken as this one is? Nothing! I was a fool to think we were the same, I'm merely its vessel.

Fine. So be it. It watches me with unblinking eyes- so many eyes- as I turn away, towards the door that leads to the waking world. My fortress beckons, and without hesitation I pass through the doorway, away from that desolate peak upon which my God awaits.

There's so much I need to do.
