Those of Clan Willowbreeze speak highly of Echo, the name they gave the mute dragon who lives in the river. None of them can say for sure what she is. Some say she was a wanderer who took a liking to the clan's peaceful environment and took up residence near the riverside. Others regard her as a water spirit, using her magic to keep the streams clean and healthy. The clan uses the water to nourish their fields of crops, and often bring Echo offerings of food and incense, hoping to keep themselves in her good graces so that she continues to keep the river clean. Whatever the story is, Echo is grateful for their friendship and hospitality. She is always available to lend a listening ear to young dragons and their woes, and though she cannot speak, she listens on patiently as the young ones whisper to her rumors of love and strife and heartbreak in their chaotic lives. The lucky few even get gentle nudges in the right direction. But even Echo herself has her admirers. Lately, Shallow has taken to offering her his quiet companionship in the evenings. There are times Echo wishes she could speak, if only to tell him of her feelings... ***** Nobody is quite sure where Shallow and Echo arrived from. They appeared one day, washed up on the beach after high tide. Neither is willing to explain, but they have been quickly adopted into the small village making Dragonhome its home. |
