 » Souls gather like moths to a flame.Strange, haunting noises come from all around, some far away, some far too close. Yet you've only caught glimpses, unearthly shadows, watching eyes. You realized long ago that you'd lost the well trodden path somehow. You could blame the dense bamboo of the forest, or the oncoming clouds that passed over the moon, both leading to loss of good lighting. Hadn't you brought a lantern with you...? A chill breeze set the bamboo frantically swaying, carrying the faint sent of rain. You wanted to find shelter, someplace away from the storm, safe from the creatures that roamed on this haunted night. Where were you? Couldn't you just fly out? Right? For some reason, you couldn't bring yourself to. Something felt off. Deep unease stirred within your chest. Out. You had to get out of here. But- The wind rushed by, this time, a light rain came with it. Hope blossomed as warm orange light filtered through the swaying bamboo. It could be a hut. Or a path marker. Almost any option would be better than wandering aimlessly. It's the light of a single lantern, it's partner unlit, guarding the entry to a graveyard. The odd gravestones within, covered in moss and crumbling from age. Odd firefly-like creatures danced about, moving away from you as you hesitantly stepped further in. This place had been here a long time. You could see no names written on the gravestones. Afraid to wander off the meager path into this... place, you follow it, heading deeper in. The little light creatures become more numerous, eventually lighting up a massive weeping willow, gathering on it's many leaves swaying in the wind. You brushed past the hanging branches, discovering the ancient trunk that resided at the end of the graveyard. An unlit lantern hung near a sign in a language you couldn't read. This place...it felt... Well, you were sheltered somewhat from the rain here, you could rest for a while... maybe find a way to light the lantern...? |
