 The seraphim returned to the surface, pushed from their home and frantically scrambling to hold their place. Thus a second great war was waged. But they were outnumbered, confused, and disoriented. What remained of them banded together in factions and fled to the mountains, living in their separate clans with nothing but shattered visions and dwindling power. They long forgot their purpose, and their wings took on different colors. They are no longer referred to by their original name. They are generally reclusive and stay in hiding, hostile to outsiders.


There are a few who defy their fate, refusing to be isolated from the rest of the world, but such hearts stray far from their home in order achieve such. Esme wants to rekindle the ambition that the Strix once had, but also seeks to establish peace between them and the rest of kind. But many of them are not willing, not yet. They aren't motivated to leave the mountains that harbor them safety, and convincing them would not be easy either. There are a handful that share her sentiment. A vision of freedom.
