Nitida adored the sea – she always had.
The way the waves would ebb and flow, everchanging and renewing. Sometimes, the waves would hit a rock and explode in a spray of refreshing mist. There was peace in the restless assuredness of the water. She liked her clan in the Viridian Labyrinth, but they were content in the trees. While the forest was beautiful in and of itself, Nitida wanted change. Trees grew so slowly, and they were always so loud when they fell, a reverberating slam of destruction that ruined homes and uprooted the ecological system. It was a hard decision to walk away from the Viridian Labyrinth, but one that she did not regret. On her way to the Sea of a Thousand Currents, she cut through the Scarred Wasteland and stumbled upon a small clan of plagueborn dragons. She had been raised with the ideals that the plagueborn dragons were inherently evil – that the followers of the Plaguebringer sought nothing but ruin. She looked upon this small clan, however, and saw a desire only for survival – a den of misfits that were bound together tightly in the face of adversity, in a rotting world, because it was all they knew. And, well. Nitida always had a bit of a bleeding heart. She could still go to the water, she could observe the waves and breathe in the sea breeze, but she had a greater purpose now, too. Nitida was a healer, and she cared for the diseased land of the Scarred Wasteland. She knew that she would never be able to heal the destruction, but she could at least ease the transition for those unused to it, dragons that wander in or are forced lest they face a worse fate elsewhere. She knew that to become a plague dragon was the ultimate betrayal of those values she was raised with – the ultimate sword in the Gladekeeper’s heart, but she refused to believe that the dragons she met in the plague clan could be the same ones that would send armies to the Viridian Labyrinth. It was all about perspective. Maybe she didn’t live at the sea, but that was okay. At least the Scarred Wasteland had no delusions about what it was. |
