He was chosen to serve the deities. He was just one of many, but those sent off to battle would not go nameless. He stood sixteenth in line, following in the footsteps of the other trainees. His mind nervously began to wander as he drew closer... closer... closer to his destiny.... And then it was his turn.

"Number 7-1-8-5-9-2-6-7, please step forward!" The sharp voice startled him from his reveries, but he quickly regained control of himself. His duty was to serve. He had no choice; it was his destiny. He had trained for this moment his entire life. He took a deep breath, and did as he was told.


Sunlight reflected off his iridescent wings as he soared over the golden plains. He tipped his wings, his long form falling gracefully from the sky as his cave came into view. It was a small, unassuming cavern, the land around it dry and littered with skeletal corpses... But on the inside, it was filled with life.

Often, a small part of him wondered what it might have been like, if he'd continued on with his Exaltation ceremony. Entire Beastclans could have fallen at his talons; many clans could have been led to the fiery glow of victory under his command. He could have been the greatest warrior Sornieth had ever seen.

And yet, he'd chosen the simpler of the two paths. He shook his head, once again cursing himself and his decisions before crawling to the dark, damp safety of his cave. A life in the wilderness, away from the wars and responsibilities that plagued the surface of the planet. It just seemed so silly, a hatchling's dream. After all, nobody could escape destiny.

Though he didn't know it, he'd become famous in the draconic world he'd left behind. He was the one who'd challenged his destiny. He'd slapped fate in the face, and gotten away with it. And he would forever be known as Beefcake.
