Séadna // the stone prince



The common aspects of the story are as follows; a beautiful, petty, and vain prince has a run in with a lovely girl. He, predictably, promises her everything, and then leaves her with nothing. Her grandmother curses him to live as a mis-shapen stone beast, alone in the swamp for a thousand years, supposedly to learn humility and compassion.

The uncommon ones; the prince is a warlock, and is not alone in the swamp. He catches himself a will-o-wisp, has her tempt travellers off the path and to him. He knows that he can break the curse through sacrifice, and each one causes another bit of stone to break off and reveal his beauty below. The witch who cursed him could have never guessed his power or his selfishness, or the deaths that he would cause.

He wonders if she knows that she's the one who created the beast that lives in the swamp.
