Izanami looks askance to the Veil, her brows furrowed in thought. "I..." she starts, then stops. Scheherazade and Azrael share a brief look between themselves as the chromatic spirit continues to internally spin.
Then, after five solid minutes of pure silence, Izanami answers: "I don't remember."
"You don't or you won't?" Azrael begins before he cuts off with a yelp, Scheherazade's claw stamped down on the fat of his tail. The young mage sends him a severe glare, grunting a short, "Stop". Azrael is lucky she misses him sticking his tounge out at her, or else his tail would have gotten crushed again.
Instead, she turns her attention on the spirit of the Veil, still aloft in her tree and looking quite miserable. "Izanami, what we really mean to ask is... are you really unable to remember anything before becoming the Veil's guardian?"
Izanami merely bows her head. "If I existed before the Veil's creation, then those memories are lost to me. But if I have not been anything else...then perhaps I need to worry about things beyond my station."
