ROZ ; rozencrantz a glitchstrip damage dealer with a smile on his face and a time bomb in his chest. // "Okay, but I lived, didn't I?" ![]()
![]() When Roz was eight years old, they took the defective heart that was killing him from the cavern of his ribcage and replaced it with metal and magic. Experimental magitech implantation. And they called it cutting edge, called it the future, but the thing has only ever felt like a stone in Roz’s chest. Or maybe that’s just anxiety. He’s not sure when the constant impulse to put his fist through a wall started either, but he thinks that one came years later, arm-in-arm with helplessness as the Windsinger took the control of his life from his hands and replaced it with the Mark on his head. But here’s how it works in the Glitchstrip: you can control anything you can overpower, and nothing you can outrun can control you. It’s a good place for Runners in theory. In practice it’s where the desperate ones go to die. Roz was always fast though, and even though he’s got God in his eyes his chest is full of the future, and the cyborgs that run the Glitchstrip were the future once too. Roz is just enough of a kinsman that there’s some leverage there. The ‘borg gangs call him damage. It’s a compliment, especially since most everything else organic-born in the Glitchstrip just gets called meat. Roz takes it and runs; he pals with the gangs when he needs to, keeps to himself the rest of the time, and tries to catch up with the Runners cutting through the strip before the carnivores or the aliens can. He survives. There's no altitude in the Glitchstrip; it's all flat scrub desert and shallow bone-dry canyons. Looking up makes Roz homesick for the Highland. Something, he thinks, about how small the stars are from down here. lore note: THE HIGHLAND wrote:
economy: wealthy | structure: theocracy | status: stable The Windland is a notoriously safe place to raise a family. Children, even Marked, cannot be Exalted until they come of age at fifteen. The territory funnels much of its immense wealth into a formal education system, and its sanctuary protocol, which protects and rehomes infants and children abandoned in churches and places of worship, is one of the Sornieth’s oldest and most successful examples of social services. If there's a downside, it's the intense conservativism peddled in the major cities. Modesty culture and puritanical values run deep through this territory, and the information offered to the public is picked clean of anything the clergy find troubling. Imported literature is frequently banned. Visiting foreigners are strongly encouraged to enjoy to the places designed for them and stay out of the local establishments, but assuming they can manage that, they're cheerfully welcomed - hospitality proves as much a pillar of the Windland as a whole as virtue is in its metropolitan areas. (And also repression, but nobody wants to talk about that.) Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Fusce et bibendum nisl. Nulla facilisi. Suspendisse potenti.
