Biography
The island is covered in mostly evergreen trees, fur, and pine, with deciduous trees here or there. The island is impressive for its large number of tall douglas fir trees. Very dense foliage and underbrush make walking difficult for smaller dragons, so they fly. Larger dragons walk through with ease. The island is 24.1 kilometers [15 miles] both across and in length. The clan’s domain, the sea of a thousand currents, borders six other flights, so its only natural that dragons from all kinds of backgrounds and flights reside here.
THE MEADOW
The meadow is a large clearing that is popular for plant eating dragons to come graze. It is filled with an assortment of wild flowers like dandelions, clovers, and honeysuckle. However, with so many dragons, they are all extremely careful not to overgraze it, and each species takes its turns so more flowers can grow. Theres a sort of tension in the clan about this, and dragons will not be afraid to call out someone who tries to graze out of turn. Umbra also gets alot of her herbs here.
THE THORN PATCH
A tangled mess of blackberry bushes grows not far from the camp. A long time ago, a dragon brought seedlings of the bushes to try and cultivate them, and they grew wildly out of control. They’re now an invasive species, and careful (but painful) measures are taken to ensure that they don’t spread to the rest of the island. For the most part, they seem to mind their place. The good thing is though, every summer the weeds bring delicious and tangy blackberries, which the snappers especially like to pick. It isn’t easy, but its worth it.
THE LESSER CAVE
Found directly in the ground not far from the meadow is another cave. After alot of children, Genesis and Lalitha, with Cassiopeia’s permission, moved their family to this cave to start a life of their own. They’re still friendly with the clan, but prefer their own independence. It isn’t nearly as grand as the clan’s cavern, but it’s still pretty cozy.
THE SHIPWRECKS
Who knows how long these skeletons of ships have been here. With their rotting wood, rusting metal, and rustling sounds, its understandable that most dragons will try to avoid this part of the island. There are even rumors that they’re haunted, though its never been proven. Braver dragons will try to scavenge wood and other resources from them, though the only wood they usually come back with is the splinters stuck in their feet. There is strange activity here, sounds and unexplained shadows. Who knows what lurks in them.
THE NORTHERN CLIFF
It is located at the north of the island, naturally. Not a place for dragons who can’t fly, or don’t fly very well, and certainly not a place for hatchlings. Eons of the sea scraping away at the rock wall have turned it very smooth, with sharp rapids and splashing waves at the bottom. Theres no guard rail here, so its easy to fall. However, it is oddly enough a thinking for place for dragons. It goes by its other name, “Midi’s point.” It is said that if you sit long enough, you’ll get a spark or an idea. You can sit here and look at the waves splashing below, or you can sit and watch the clouds. On days where the mist is low, if you squint your eyes and look very very carefully, you can see the faintest outline of the tangled wood.
THE SOUTHERN BEACH
Its a long stretch of sand that wraps around 3/4s of the island. Trinkets, driftwood, and general “Junk” often wash ashore from the other flights, which is gathered and stored away in the clans hoard. Even eggs wash up occasionally. Seaweed also difts ashore, which is taken and dried in case of famines or emergencies. It’s considered a romantic part of the island, and dragons will often walk with their mates on the sand during sunset. Hatchlings are also taken here to play in the sand.
THE LAGOON
It’s a large inlet that was welcome to ships in the past. Most likely not a good idea, since there are a bunch of shipwrecks in the northwestern side. The water here is more mild and shallow, making it an ideal place for dragons to take their hatchlings to swim as opposed to the open sea. Gaolers and Tundras especially love it, oddly enough, as it gets hot on the island, especially during the summer months. The water cools them down, since they are arctic breeds.
THE TIDE POOLS
Further east from the lagoon are the adorable tidepools. They’re too small for dragons like imperials and guardians to explore, but they’re just perfect for smaller dragons. Little creatures like crabs and fish can be found in them, making it a prime fishing spot.
THE GREAT LOG
The great log was once a very tall and proud tree, rising up above the canopy. It most likely fell to age, or a big storm perhaps and it was toppled over. Now it is rotting, and is even completely hollow inside. It is teaming inside with all sorts of bugs and grubs, making it a popular place for bug eating dragons, like fae. It is also a quarantine place for smaller dragons with sickness.
THE LAKE
It is a rather small lake, but possibly one of the most important places to the clan, due to the fact that it is one of the few places on the island to get fresh water. The next closest fresh water is at least 6 kilometers [4 miles] away, in the tangled wood, so the clan has very strict rules regarding it. There is no swimming whatsoever, and the only time dragons are allowed to touch it is to dip their heads in to get a drink, or to fill a vessel full of water. No other parts of the body may go in.
