Miroku and Tada first met during the 戦国時代 -- the Warring States era -- aka, the Inuyasha timeline.

During this time, Miroku was a travelling monk on a mission to slay a poweful youkai who had laid a curse on his family. The curse -- the black-hole-like 風穴 -- would in time grow and eventually consume him as it had his grandfather and father before him. Fueled by the looming threat of an early demise, and his naturally less-than-stellar morals, he had a habit of asking every pretty woman he met along his travels to bear him a child. Along the way, he joined up with a group of others who were hunting Naraku, the same evil youkai, and eventually regarded them as companions and close friends.

Tada was a half-youkai born to the eastern wolf tribe, the Yourou clan. Conceived out of spite when her mother -- wife of the clan leader -- laid with a human to punish her husband for ignoring her for long periods at a time, the rest of the clan always looked on her with shame. Over the years, she naturally became a recluse in the caves of the tribe's mountain home. Aside from rare visit from her older half-brother Kouga, Tada spent the majority of her life alongside the feral wolf youkai of their tribe, which left her pretty feral in return.

When Tada learned of her brother's plan to betroth her to his right-hand man, she fled the clan. Overwhelmed and bewildered by the world beyond her home, Tada spent days observing the humans who travelled thru the mountain pass, eventually frightening the carriage of a travelling lady in a moment of bold curiosity.

And who would come running at the sounds of a person in distress?

Unsurprisingly, being approached by a group of strangers ready for combat frightened

"Wait, please!" She was not used to being spoken to, and even less to being asked instead of ordered.

He spoke to her kindly. His demeanor was gentle. He did not hesitate to look in her eyes and smile.

The lady

When an enemy laid a trap for the Yourou clan ended in slaughter, a desperate Kouga decided that the clan needed to regain its strength and numbers in any way possible... and decided that Tada would marry his right-hand man. When visited by her brother for the first time in months, Tada was initially elated. But news he bore, caused that elation to fade, and instead stirred something in her very bones.

She ran. She had never before left the safety of the mountains, but in that moment she had felt anything but safe. She ran and ran and ran until she reached a road thru a pass in the mountains, which took her aback enough to rest a moment. Passing along the road at that moment was a rather grand... box? being pulled by horses. A man, who must be human judging from the non-wolf smell, was leading the horses. "旦那さま," came a sweet voice from the inside the box. The voice carried on but Tada did not really listen. She had never seen another female that was not a wolf, not since her mother died, and she had certainly never seen a human woman. Curiosity took over. She hopped on top of the box and peered into the little window from above, locking upside-down eyes with the lady inside. Tada was not sure why she screamed, she had not bitten her or anything, but nevertheless scream she did -- prompting the


-- eventually fixating on a carriage bearing a beautiful lady. She followed the carriage in secret until her curiosity got the better of her. Naturally, the humans were frightened by this cave-dwelling wolf girl "attacking" them and fled in a hurry, leaving Tada behind with a few kimonos that had fallen loose from in the panic.
