As the libraries' founder, Loxias is aloof and rather inapprochable. Those who love him argue that he is just a little bit strange; those who do not love him maintain that there is something 'off' about him.

A solitary figure, he spends many of his daylight hours hunting and often seems to prefer the company of beasts to other people. He lavishes attention on his pack of nightmarish hounds, and has trained them to answer only to him. He also loves music and poetry, but in a cold and obsessive way that others find unsettling; he seems to take no real pleasure in it (or anything else).

Loxias's vocation is contained in his library, where he keeps his large collection of ancient poetry and musical texts. When asked what he is collecting these texts for, he mutters something about 'a song that will touch the heavens' and hurries away. Nobody likes to go in the library at night because of the strange sounds that issue from it: everyone knows that Loxias carries out experiments there, but nobody knows what sort of experiments, or to what end. It is common knowledge, however, that he is a powerful alchemist, and his tolerance for the group's more scientifically oriented researchers is justified by the fact that he quietly relies on the ingredients that they provide him.

He is generally respected by the other scholars, and often feared. He has few close relationships. Cassandre was his companion for many years, and the two still share a certain complicity; Charis is his only real friend. However, a close observer would discern that the two clearly have a strange history between them, and that they seem to share some kind of burden that they prefer not to talk about. A closer observer might observe that the intimacy between the two goes far beyond friendship.

His library tends to attract introverted individuals with strange obsessions.
