a child has fallen from the stars! oh sh*t, man! whistle is conducting a very thorough research, while lani makes sure to keep the kid close or at least within her sights as much as possible

it is made of a star metal and while it's mostly stuck to this dragon shape, if scraps or chunks of metal are cut away from it, it doesn't hurt it and the metal kinda . . . regrows? over the course of the day. pretty wild magic stuff going on yknow. because of this unique attribute, theory loves to have it at her forge, and it likes to be there. its metal conducts/powers electricity really well, and so it likes to help paintbrush with his radio broadcasts.

it can make some sounds, which are similar to bird whistles or chirps, but can't speak the draconic tongue. learns more from observation than auditory instruction. it doesn't like hurting things, not in fighting beasts/dragons or in hunting prey, and seems puzzled by a lot of organic life, especially in how they die. despite its no-harm policy, hourglass patrols the clan's territory boundaries, always taking an interest in the defenses and protections put into place. whenever the patrollers do get into a fight, hourglass often just stands there and lets the enemy hit it, because it can't take any real harm, and what would be agonizing wounds to organic dragons feels like itching or crawling bugs to hourglass

though friendly with everyone, its closest friend is pendulum. the veilspun likes to nap in hourglass's mane

lani figures out that the hardness of the metal can be adjusted, so the metal can become more fluid/soft. this is what allows pendulum to cozy up in its mane, and helps theory scoop out metal for forging. it can also use this ability in battle, let a portion of its body become soft as mud so an enemy's attack just sinks right in, absorbing the blow, then hourglass can harden that section, so thr metal firms around the attacker's claws or weapon and immobilizes it. lani likes to make the metal fluid and sculpt little figurines out of it, which hourglass doesn't mind. because hourglass is also a map of the night sky, both lani and whistle will study it. it's kinda like a telescopic view, given physical form and able to interact with

it can rust from water, so it generally avoids rain. it and oxidation have to skirt kinda wide circles around another

hourglass takes a big interest in birds of prey, and if left with nothing else to do will go wander off to look for one. is known to follow after a hawk or eagle on foot for hours on end. eventually comes across an orphaned falcon chick and raises it as its own, trains it to come when it calls. often the falcon will just perch on hourglass's shoulder, claws dug into the metal to give it a firm hold

eventually hourglass grows large enough that it can't fit easily inside the lair, so it takes to sleeping outside, right across the main entrance so if anything wants to get inside they'd literally have to go through it. on rainy nights it'll squeeze inside the tunnels and sleep inside. over the winter it'll revert to its statue state and protect the clan all season long
