SASSAFRAS, known variably as Sassafras, Saffa, and his alias Magpie, is a mischievous magician.

After the Great Sleep, Smokescreen wanted to uncover what had happened to make the clan befall such a mysterious event. Was it a curse? A malevolent sorcerer settling a score? A magic field event?

Who better to hire than someone who is a sorcerer themself?

Sometimes, Smokescreen thinks that in fact, anyone would have been better.

Sassafras' chaotic approach and apparent contempt for Smokescreen's do-gooder attitude has been a constant point of tension, but Smokescreen cannot deny the work Sassafras has done toward uncovering the mystery of the Great Sleep. Through divination, Sassafras was able to contact the clan's ghostly progenitor, and much has been learned about the magical forces that may have caused the year-long state of dormancy they suffered.

Still, the emotional distance between Smokescreen and Sassafras remained, and so Smokescreen didn't expect much when he told Saffa the clan was moving to Ice territory.

Yet, to Smokescreen's astonishment, Saffa acted as if there was no question of his following.

He really is full of surprises.
