pron. awe-in-beh-ch (soft ch, as in 'loch')
old irish; probably 'wet, rainy, humid'. explained by glossators as 'abundant, plentiful'.

ainbech was the first spirit to approach the clan. he is shy, and only appears on rainy and misty days. he loves exploring the clan's grounds in the mist. sassafras first tried using sorcery to fill his tower with mist, to make him appear, but it seemed ainbech could discern the authentic weather phenomena from the constructed. to his irritation, sassafras was forced to rely on scouting missions with forge and moli to catch a glimpse of ainbech and have conversations with him. this was especially frustrating because sassafras thought he was kinda cute.

this continued for a duration as sassafras built trust with ainbech. their interactions went from scattered and somewhat forced, to easy, and sassafras even began to feel that, when he went out in the rain, it was ainbech that was approaching him. during a particularly showery season, sassafras and ainbech were able to talk for hours, and took to sitting together under the rain-shelter behind the teahouse where the stores are kept, the smell of dry tea and rain. of course, the rainy season could not last, and sassafras found himself missing ainbech dearly during the following dry spell. the next time it rained, sassafras waited anxiously under the rain-shelter. when ainbech appeared, he promised he would always come back.
