"Did we really need to travel so far just to spar?"

The slightly smaller Imperial snarled at her paler counterpart, tail lashing from side to side as she listened to him complain. She may have a few lashes here and there, but she'd shown him why he should wear armor. There were a few slashes here and there, though nothing too serious. She wasn't about to admit he was her better, not now. Not to this pampered mutt.

They both had their scars, really. She had many over her years of battling, though her memories were long gone. Her scars were harder to see, however, than those darkened cuts along that dog's pale coat. Even the tattered edges of his wings were tipped in pitch, stark against that almost creamy fur of his. She hated it. He was like a spoiled pet, not a great beast! She knew he had it in him, but dragging it out was a feat in and of itself, and a rare one at that.

"What better place to face that pretty veil of yours than the land of the dogs? Here is where you find battle-worn beasts who know how to dance that veil of yours as soon as they break their shells! Even the ground beneath your feet is trying to drag you into the dark!" The larger drake sighs at her, his head shaking as he sits down. He seems dissatisfied with the other's answer, quirking a brow at her. Were her words not enough to move him? Then he spoke up, his tail tapping the fleshy peat beneath him.

"You talk as if you know it well, and yet you only saw a glimpse of it. I've reached into the veil to return wayward souls time and time again, spell after spell, and not once have I brought back a life by fighting. This is pointless." The warrior feels her claws dig into the earth below at his statement. She's quick to lash out with that tail of hers, sending her opponent scrabbling back a bit to avoid adding a new gash to his side. As he takes a moment to recover, she takes the opportunity to speak her opinion on the matter.

"And what happens when something dangerous strikes again? When another beast attacks you? I'm your only guard, Zerah. If fighting you will teach you to defend yourself, so be it!" The two grappled at that, tearing up the landscape as she finally got the upper hand on her opponent. For a brief second, she caught sight of it. Just past that surprised look was the beast she knew so well.

The crack that rang from the two was followed by a heavy silence, broken only by the rasping breath of the beasts in the Waste. They'd broken apart, new gashes in their sides, with shreds of mane and a broken shard of horn in the ichor left behind. The smaller beast almost looked proud of her accomplishment, while her partner, Zerah, looked annoyed. He finally spit at her as he sat down, his glasses tilted and cracked.

"I know well enough how to fight, Khashada. I doubt you could teach me anything new when it comes to a battle." He seemed ready to continue to this Khashada, only to see she seemed distracted by the murky ichor between them. As he turned his head to follow her gaze, she finally spoke up.

"I believe our sparring may have proven you wrong." A little head lifted from the pool, her coat glimmering with Khashada's patterned hide while her glassy wings were a darker match to Zerah, stained by the ichor between them. The red eyes of this battle-worn homeland peered at the two drakes, staring back down at her in utter shock.

"... It seems you've managed to create a new life through battle alone, Pale Beast."
