Biography

MORIBUND

S3QjuMs.png

The laws of magic are fickle, waxing and waning at the beck and call of a hidden master. Though pyromancy is but one school, those who practice the arcane arts are acutely aware that they play with fire in more ways than one. Mages who seek to gain knowledge of the unknown secrets of the old world find themselves reduced to gibbering fools plagued by whispers and shadows.
Those who seek eternal life find themselves nothing but husks rendered immobile on joints of dust. However grim a fate awaits the poor magic user whose knowledge of the rewards far outweighs the knowledge of the consequences, there exists a select few who knowingly tap into sources of magic forbidden to the mortal races. Those who dip their hands into the raw energies of the Latticework find themselves at a crossroads that only the Gods were allowed to walk. More pertinently, those who try and use such magic find themselves face to face with Moribund.

Once a prodigious acolyte himself, Moribund's hunger for knowledge and power grew and led him to incite a coup from within the consortium of mages where he studied. Word of his deed spread far and wide and those renegade mages whom found themselves persecuted for using magic for themselves flocked to him, swearing fealty so long as he shared what knowledge he'd gained with them.

As a rebel turned ruler, Moribund wove shadowy hexes and dark curses to bend kings to his will, siphoning their lands for resources. After centuries a scourge wracked Moribund; discontent. He could conquer kingdoms with a flick of his wing, cause calamities in a breath, he'd dueled the greatest mages of his era and won crushing victories. Still, one incantation eluded him. One act which he had not yet mastered or even dared to attempt. It became clear to all that Moribund's next goal was to walk the Weirding Ways. After months of preparation, he along with his staff spent days exerting an organ rupturing effort and finally, Moribund weaved runes and spoke old languages of power whose words could turn the tides of wars and level continents. He reached his claw through the very fabric of the universe and became one of the few mortals whom was able to pluck at the strands that only the Norn were allowed manipulate.

Unbeknownst to him, while Moribund set his sights on conquest, so too did forces beyond him set their sights on punishing him gravely for his insolence. Historians debate when exactly Moribund died but what's certain is that it was not the peaceful throes of glory that he'd envisioned. Instead, he found himself at the crossroads he aspired to traverse in life, though this time splayed out as nothing but primordial soul-stuff before the very Gods he sought to usurp. It must have been pitiful hearing him beg and mewl in front of them. A mage king of near limitless power reduced to a begging pile of drivel. Though much to his surprise, he was not condemned for his transgression. No, his punishment came in the form of an offer he could not resist...
