The Stargazer

"She left one early morning, after spending the night watching the stars that she loved. She winged her way towards the land of the Flamecaller knowing that leaving was the right thing. It was cold back where she hailed from, and she craved warmth. So here she was. As she landed she spread her wings and smiled. She relished the way her body was as white as the hottest sparks from the furnaces. She knew that she was finally somewhere that she could call home.

But her first night revealed that not all was swell. The light from the fires made the night sky seem more dim. The stars had lost the bright intensity the Evenstar knew. She had hoped that the next night would have been better, but it was no different. The stars had become lifeless. She was heartbroken, until a solution appeared.

Working in the furnaces left her covered in ash. It covered her wings and and body in smoky swirls. But she didn't wash it off. Instead she only wiped it away small dots of it. She no longer needed the night sky to see her beloved stars, for they were on her body, and she could gaze upon them whenever she wanted to."
